Maverick

Overwhelmed by the news of Skylar and Mallory's plan, I desperately needed something to take my mind off things. After confronting Skylar, she flatly denied the accusation and pointed the finger at Mallory to get back at her.

For what?

Who the fuck knows.

Word on the street was that Mallory had shut down the gallery completely. No one knew why or how, but I couldn't shake off the feeling that Skylar was somehow involved, but I needed a distraction.

Shaking the thoughts from my head, I take a drink from my beer. The music blares through the speakers. It feels like college all over again. My eye catches a redhead wearing a demon outfit that shows off her long legs in black stockings and red heels. I glance up and down at her body laughing at myself at how ridiculous she looks while taking a swig from my beer. She takes that as an invitation and walks over to me.

I lean against the doorframe with my leg over one ankle and one hand in my pocket. The beer dangles in my free hand.

“Hey, Mav.” She sucks on her lollipop and runs her painted nails down her chest, then between her breasts.

“I’m Jade.”

I just nod.

“Do you want another beer?” She pushes her breasts against my chest.

“Not interested.” I take a step back, distancing myself from her.

Her lips curled into a pout.

“Yo, Mav!”

Thank fuck.

Relieved by the interruption, I quickly make my way over to the pool table where Mason and the other guys are standing.

’Sup, man.” Travis hands me a beer.

I tip my chin up as a thank you and finish the rest of my first beer before taking the one he’s offering.

“I saw Jade wanted a little attention from the big bad Mav.” Travis grins, holding the beer to his lips.

“Yeah.” I scoff, taking another drink.

“She isn't too bad in the sack.” He speaks louder so he can be heard over the music. “But she can suck your dick like a Hoover.” He grins.

A notification on Mason’s cell phone alerts him several times before he reaches for his phone and unlocks the screen. He brings the phone close to his face and back away for a second look, like he can’t believe what he’s seeing.

“What’s up?” I ask, swallowing a gulp of beer.

Mason takes another look and throws his head back laughing.

“What’s so funny?” I ask.

“Dude.” Mason keeps laughing and shaking his head.

“What?” My eyes snap to Jacobi, an old friend from college who’s looking over Mason’s shoulder.

“She’s not my girl, she’s Mav’s…” Mason points to the screen.

“What the hell are you talking about?” I snatch his phone, and my eyes go wide as I begin to feel murderous.

“What the fuck.” I look up at Mason and back to the screen.
