“I found her naked, mangled body. Scared off the crows and vultures feasting on her flesh.”

“Oh, my God.” She put her hand on her chest and bumped into a tree. “Who… Who was she?”

“Don’t know.” I stopped in front of her.

“Do… Do they know who killed her?”

“Again, don’t know.” I licked my bottom lip and twirled a section of her blonde hair around my finger. “You have one chance to tell me the truth. Is he my son?”

“Rocky, now isn’t the time. The club votes tonight, then you’ll be king. We can talk about everything later.”

“Talk about everything? What else are you keeping from me?”

“As if you’re not hiding shit from me!”

“I told you about my tumor. You know what kept me from returning to you.” My stomach tightened. I hadn’t mentioned Cole and how I’d raised him as my own. It would devastate Ella after she’d been alone when she had the boy.

But what was done was done. Irisah and Cole were my past; they had no place in my life now that I was back with Ella.

“Yeah, and was that it? Or was it the other woman who kept you away for five years?”

“For fuck’s sake! She manipulated me and lied about being my girlfriend. I didn’t know the truth, but I came home once I did! And what did I find? My woman’s been fucking eight men regularly!”

“Fuck you,Rocky!” She spat in my face. The pungent odor of hate seeped out of her pores. “I had no choice because you abandoned me! The things I endured, the pain I suffered was all because of you!”

“I didn’t abandon you.” I grabbed her hand, spun her around, and zip-tied her wrists. “You weren’t the only one suffering.”

“Oh boo-hoo. So you didn’t remember things about your life. That’s nothing compared to what I went through!” She was fired up but surprisingly didn’t struggle. “I don’t understand why you’re doing this.”

“You lied about his age. You said he was almost four, but he turns five on the fifth of July! He is old enough to be mine.” I whirled her around to face me.

She blinked, and I could hear the wheels turning in her head.

“Go ahead and lie to my face again. Say he’s not mine, so I can punish you.” I dragged the pad of my thumb down her cheek and gripped her jaw. “I would love to make you cry and beg for mercy.”

Determination flashed on her face. She displayed zero emotion.

“You’ve kept me from him for two fucking weeks! I’m done waiting, Ella. Give me the words I want to hear, the words I deserve to hear.” My heart pounded against my ribs. Why was she being so goddamn stubborn? Why was she holding back?

“I don’t know where you’re getting your information from, but it’s—”

“Are you fucking crazy? Do you think I’d bring you out here if I wasn’t confident I was the boy’s father?”

She swallowed thickly. “Maybe you’re confused.”

“He told me he’s turning five on the fifth of July.”

“He’s just a little boy,Rocky.”

I covered her mouth to shut her the fuck up. “Stop! I’m sick of all the lies. You’re no better than Irisah.”

She bit my hand and drew blood.

“Goddammit!” I whipped my hand away.

“Fuck you. Go back to Irisah, because I don’t want you!” She slipped out from me and the tree, and naturally, I followed.

“Yes, you do. And even if you don’t, I still own you.”
