My eyes bulged. “Okay. We obviously have a lot to talk about, but another time.” I glanced at the diner and saw Rocky and Rockson sitting at our old table.

“Yes. Go be with your man and son.” A sad smile marred her beautiful face. “I truly am sorry, Ella. I hope our friendship is salvageable. It would break my heart if I lost such a dear friend.”

“I think we’ll be okay. It just might take some time.” I’d loved Libby like a sister. I didn’t want to lose her either. And what kind of a person would I be if I couldn’t find it within myself to forgive and show mercy to those who’d hurt me? I wasn’t perfect and made mistakes. Trust could be rebuilt if I allowed it.

“Absolutely. Take all the time you need.”

“Before I go, what happened to Tami?”

“Cobra’s chapter took her. He is Storm’s and Rocky’s cousin. His club occupies North Dakota. I doubt she’ll see her next birthday, if you know what I mean.” She grimaced. I did know what she meant, and I wasn’t sad for Tami. If she would’ve gotten away, she would’ve sold my child. She could burn in hell for all I cared.

“Thank you for telling me the truth.”

“I’ll always be honest unless it’s club business.”

“I understand…”

After Libby and her men left, I joined my handsome guys inside Apple Andy’s. Like his father, Rockson was devouring a slice of apple pie, à la mode. They melted my heart.

“Hey, you couldn’t wait for me?” I put my hands on my hips and tilted my head playfully.

Rockson giggled. “Dad said girls talk a lot, so we ordered because we are starving.”

“Well, we can’t have two starving men. Now, who should I sit by?” I tapped my finger on my lips.

Rocky said, “Rockson.”

Rockson said, “Dad.”

“You two are no help.”

“Moms and dads should sit together.” Rockson grinned as he shoveled a heaping bite into his mouth.

“If you say so, buddy.” I turned my attention to Rocky. “May I?”

“You don’t even have to ask.” He stood, took my hand, and kissed the top before I slid into the booth.

My heart fluttered as it overflowed with love for the men in my life. I never wanted to lose either of them.

“So, Dad. Wednesday is father-son day at school. Will you go with me?” Rockson asked.

“Of course I’ll go. What will we do?”

Rocky’s question launched Rockson into a long-winded description of the events planned, from beginning to end. I sat back and enjoyed the dialog between them.

Thank you, Lord, for keeping my loves safe.

Rocky (RJ)

The weeks following the shitstorm that had exploded in Scornrock had flown by. Rockson and Ella had stayed with me at a local hotel, and we were getting to know each other better.

Having a kid in our room had been the ultimate cock block, which was fine. After Ella’s assault, she needed time to heal, not so much physically but emotionally. She’d tried to get me to have sex when Rockson was at school, but I’d only cuddled her and loved on her as best I could.

There wasn’t any rush. I had my woman and son. Nothing else mattered. Of course, I’d gone to bed each night and woke each morning, blue-balled. But what didn’t break us only made us stronger.

In the meantime, I talked to Storm on the phone several times a week. Our childhoods were a lot alike, sadly. He’d convinced me to bring my family to Minnesota to meet his. I hadn’t seriously considered it, but Ella had talked me into it. She had wanted to see Libby, and I wasn’t about to disappoint my woman. So I loaded her and Rockson into my pickup on the last day of school, and we headed north on the interstate.
