I blinked with my mouth agape, wondering why in the heck he would say such a thing to me. Me, Ellassandra Hill, the plain-Jane girl from nowhere. RJ was explosively hot and way out of my league. He was every dirty girl’s dream bad boy.

“I heard everything!” Brenda ran out from the back. “Girl. That biker boy is hot for you.”

“Hot for me?” I snorted. “Yeah, right. He was screwing with me. Nothing more.” I filled the salt jars, silently praying I was wrong about RJ and that he had meant what he’d said.

Brenda’s gaze bore into the side of my head. “We’ll see.”

“Yup. I bet he’ll never come back to Apple Andy’s again.”

A week after we’d met, RJ entered the dineraloneand sat at a booth in my section. He drummed his fingers on the table, with an intense glint in his eyes, and commanded me over with only a look. I obeyed without hesitation, reasoning that he was in my section, so he was my customer.

“Back so soon?”

His gaze raked up and down my length, seemingly unaffected by my snarky tone. “Yeah. I’m here for a slice of apple pie.”

He’s not here to see me.His reply disappointed me because I hadn’t stopped thinking about him, but I’d never let him see how he hurt my feelings. If he only wanted pie, then fine by me.

“Sure. And what would you like to drink?”

“Iced tea.”

“Sweet or unsweetened?” I avoided his gaze and stared at my notepad. Not that I needed it, but it was a good distraction.

“My tongue only likes sweet things.”

A jolt of electricity crackled in my core. “Sweet it is.” I turned on my heel, doing my best to play it cool. Once I entered the kitchen, I shook out my arms with a stupid smile. Cook stared at me with an arched brow. “It’s nothing,” I told him, then returned to the front.

I felt RJ’s watchful gaze on me while I plated his pie and got his sweet tea. Had he really only come for the pie? I hoped not.

“Here you go.” I set the glass and plate in front of him. “Can I get you anything else?”

“Company. I don’t like to eat alone.” He nodded toward the spot across from him.

I gulped. “I’m working.”

“I’m a fast eater.” He studied my face as his tongue darted out and swiped across his lower lip.

Don’t read between the lines!Too late. I squeezed my thighs. “I’m working.”

“Sit, Ella. It’s slow, so take a break.” He wasn’t wrong. All the customers had been served and would be leaving soon. The diner wouldn’t pick up again until four, when the old people filed in for an early dinner.

“My break is only fifteen minutes long.” I sat and checked the time on the wall clock. “Beginning now.”

“Do you always follow the rules?” He dived into his pie. I followed the fork to his mouth, mesmerized as his lips went around it.

What I wouldn’t do to scoop the apple filling onto my finger and feed it to him. It would be like my dreams had turned into a reality. Every night this biker rockstar would visit me in my sleep and do all the naughty things to me I’d seen in the forbidden movies I’d watched.

Shame on me for letting him get into my head, even after the way his uncle had treated me last week. My parents would flip out, but I didn’t care. I liked RJ and was curious about him. And I was tired of being controlled and told how to act when my own father was a lying adulterer. I refused to be fake and hide the person God had created. I only wanted to be me, and I wasn’t a saint.

“Ella? Answer me.”

“Oh, um… Yes.”Stop making a fool of yourself. “What about you?”

“Rules are meant to be broken.”
