Bile shot into my mouth. I held the throw-up on my tongue as tears burned behind my eyes. I forced myself to swallow it and not to make a sound, but naturally, the action produced more vomit.

Sweat beaded on my neck and forehead. My body violently trembled. I could hardly breathe, paralyzed in place.

He stopped moving.

I couldn’t hear anything through the pounding pulse in my ears.

God, please help me. Please!

A beam of light brightened the darkness. It fanned out to the left and slowly swept in my direction.

My breathing hitched.

Stomach churned.

I made out his form. It’s not Rocky! This person was wearing a dark hoodie; the hat covered most of his head and hid his face.

Tears streamed down my cheeks as the yellow light got closer. I needed a plan, a way to protect myself, but nothing came to mind other than running for my life.

“There she is.” The light hit my face.

I bolted, pushing through the shrubs and dodging trees like a doe on the run. I worked my arms, chugging like The Little Engine That Could.

A villainous laugh crashed through the woods. He ran after me with the light bouncing off the ground, tree trunks, and me.

I felt him gaining on me, so I pushed harder while biting my tongue. If I could make it back to the road, I’d know which direction to go toward town.

I took a sharp right, and my foot slipped on something slimy. My feet got tangled up, but I recovered quickly and pressed on.

“Fuck!” he yelled and tumbled to the ground, where I almost bit it. “You’ll pay, baby girl.”

A sob bubbled in my throat as I neared the road. I was so close.Push, Ella. You can do it. Just a little farther and…“Ah!” I tripped and went flying through the air.

Hitting the ground with a hard thud, I saw stars, then shook them out of my head. I scurried on my hands and knees, trying to get a foothold to get back up.

“Got you!” The monster tackled me to the ground.

A blood-curdling scream ripped from my lungs. I twisted around, kicking my legs and hitting any part of him I could reach. “Get off me!” I couldn’t make out his face in the pitch dark. His flashlight wasn’t in his hands. Maybe he’d lost it when he’d fallen back there.

“Finders keepers, losers weepers.” He secured my wrists in one of his hands. He was super fast and easily overpowered me. He slapped one handcuff on me and attached it to a metal stake he smashed into the ground.

“No, please, no,” I cried, wholly undone. Rocky must’ve been shot by this lunatic, and now he was after me. “Don’t hurt me.”

“Too late, little girl. Daddy gets to have some fun now.” He drove another stake into the ground on the other side of my head, pulled out a rope, and tied my hand to it. Both of my arms were secured, but that didn’t stop me from kicking and screaming.

The rope and handcuff bit into my skin. I was burning up, no longer freezing cold. This couldn’t be happening. It had to be a nightmare, the worst nightmare of my life.

“Wake up, Ella!” I shouted. “Wake the fuck up!”

The monster laughed. “This ain’t no fucking dream, baby girl.” The sound of fabric ripping and the rush of cold air on my pelvis launched me into a screaming fit.

“Help me! Oh God, someone, please help me! Rocky!” I yelled for my love but knew he couldn’t save me. If he were alive, this monster would’ve never been able to capture me.

“No one will help you.” He folded my sweatshirt over my face so I couldn’t see and tore my T-shirt, exposing my breasts.

I kicked wildly and sobbed uncontrollably; neither were doing a damn thing to help. The heartless monster didn’t give a shit about me. But I wouldn’t go down without a fight.

The firmness in his jeans dug into my thigh as he rocked on me and fondled my nipples. My worst nightmare was happening, every woman’s worst nightmare.
