“I get that we didn’t pick each other and that you might have different designs on romance, but this is what it is. Nothing more. Nothing less. Ya got that?”

She gets up from her chair and walks slowly over to my side of the table, like a willing sacrifice. “I guess we should get this over with.”

The defeated look on her face makes me loathe everything in this fucking world. Sure, I want to fuck her, but not with her looking all miserable.

Perhaps if she sees how generous I can be, it’ll change her outlook on how this has to go.

“One condition,” I say, blotting my mouth with my napkin.

Her brow lifts. “What’s that?”

“I get to lick your pussy first.”

Her cheeks redden as her brow narrows in confusion. “Absolutely not! That’s vulgar.”

“That’s what I am, baby.”

Chapter4

LYRA

The entirety of the trip out to the cabin, I imagined what this moment would be like.

I never once got it right.

The man seated in front of me isn’t good or decent. He’s a filthy pervert that wants to…I’m not even sure if I understood what he said.

My parents were not a wealth of sex information, but my mom had a few romance novels lying around that I’d sneak to look at occasionally.

They never once mentioned what he’d said. I don’t even know if that’s a ‘thing’, or if he’s joking. Perhaps I’m misunderstanding his intention.

My gut twists with anxiety because I don’t know what to do.

Venus gave me precious little information about what my life would be like or what was expected of me. After days of traveling, they dropped me off at a tree line and told me to make my way to the light.

From the outside, the cabin looked cozy and inviting. I peered inside a window, hardly believing my eyes when I spied Brock for the first time.

He seemed impossibly big, and that’s not an exaggeration. The seams of his shirt strained against his muscles. His large frame was so shocking, that I was half tempted to run.

But this isn’t about me. Carrie and Caleb deserve a chance at a good shot at life, and I decided right then and there that nothing would deter me from doing what I had to do to keep them healthy.

And I have to admit, he’s more attractive than I’d expected. His black hair is wild, and his eyes so dark, they’re like two chips of coal. He could easily have starred in one of those movies they had before the world got so toxic.

“You sure are taking your time for someone who said they want to get this over with.”

A part of me wants to hate him, but this isn’t his fault. If anything, he’s just as much a victim as I am.

Seeing as how I have no experience, I suppose I should do as he says, and hopefully, he won’t be cruel.

“Where do you want me?”

Brock pushes his plate and everything nearby far back on the table and pats the spot in front of him, like he expects me to take a seat.

I could balk at him, but what good would that do? Being combative will only make our eventual coupling that much more miserable.

Awkwardly, I move to the table, taking a seat directly in front of him. The dress I’m wearing goes just past my knees, which I’m thankful for, but the look on his face suggests I won’t get to keep my modesty much longer.

“I’m going to make this good for you,” he says, which nearly makes me burst into laughter.
