“He singled out a woman at an event in Edmonds—an architect—and it looks like he hired her to design and implement a new production plant and inclusive planned development for his employees. He wants her to use an ancient building site. I don’t know which one yet, but I’ll get the information.”

“Does he have any interest in her other than professional?”

Tevryn didn’t quite suppress his growl before saying, “If he does, he hasn’t revealed it, and her body language around him is doing nothing to encourage it.”

“Anything behind that growl other than your dislike of the man in general?”

Tevryn thought about lying to Falkor, but the brotherhood had been built on trust and transparency. “It would seem I’m going to have to take back all the jokes I made at your and Warrick’s expense.”

Falkor started laughing. “Kess? It seems Tevryn has found something interesting in Bellevue…”

“Issaquah. She lives in Issaquah.”

“I stand corrected. Something interesting in Issaquah.”

“What?” called Kessily from the other room.

“Tevryn has met his eternal flame, and I don’t think he’s too happy about it,” answered Falkor, who was trying and failing to keep the amusement out of his voice.

“It’s not funny,” grumbled Tevryn.

“It is, but not to you. I have to say, though, it has lightened my mood considerably.”

“Are you that worried about Kessily?”

“I am and with no cause to be. She’s just flitting around like it’s no big deal, and I’ve never worried about going into battle the way I am over the birth of our child.”

“Think of it this way,” Tevryn offered to console his friend. “This is Kessily’s battle, and your mate is every bit as much a warrior as you are. She will be fine, as will the child.”

“I also worry about the reports we have coming in. The good news is that Sobek has talked to McKinley, Monroe, and Beckman. Not only do we have their support, but they have also agreed to quietly reach out to others. Monroe was of the opinion that the Shadow League had already attracted some of the European clans. If it comes to it, it’ll be a bloody war.”

“Which is what the League wants. Do we know anything more about Abraham?”

“Not much that we can pin down. I believe he was banished to some of the coastal caves in what was then Britannia. But his actual origins are shrouded by the mists of time. Tell me about your mate and her connection to Whistler.”

“The only connection she has is business. I left him in his office, which I am electronically monitoring. I need to get something on his phone besides a tracker. I’m headed back to Delaney’s…”

“Is that her name?”

“Yes, Delaney Pierce. I engineered a meeting at the event after Whistler left her so thought I’d just drop in. One little interesting piece of information I picked up—the plant he is going to have Delaney design is for the production of Norle, and it wasn’t Whistler himself who came up with it. It was one of his lackeys, but Whistler took the credit. As the guy worked for him, it would be considered ‘work product.’ Interestingly, though, the actual inventor is on sabbatical…”

“Dead?” asked Falkor.

“That would be my guess, but we should pass it along to the Resistance. If he isn’t dead, and we can bring him into the fold, it might be worth doing.”

“Agreed. Send me what you have, and I’ll put someone on it.”

“Dani might be the best person. After all, she’s the one with a degree in criminal investigation.”

“Is Whistler doing anything of note?”

“Other than breathing, no. But I don’t trust him. Something is up with this project. I can feel it in my bones.”

“Your Delaney…”

“She isn’t my Delaney…” protested Tevryn.

“We both know that isn’t true, but in any event, she is probably going to have information she doesn’t even know. Get close to her.”
