“What about Whistler?”

“With Sobek due to return any time, if you aren’t using Dani’s place…”

“I’m not.”

“Then I can send Dani and Warrick back to her place and let her work on trying to track down more on Abraham while Warrick keeps an eye on Whistler. If you need to, I’m sure you can stay with them, which will give us a good base. That way if he makes a big move, we’ll have all three of you in place.”

Tevryn felt himself nodding his head and was reminded that Falkor couldn’t see him. “I would appreciate that. Delaney has a sister. I’ll keep an eye on her, as well.”

Tevryn ended the call, left the parking lot, and headed for Delaney’s. As he did so, she drove past him going in the opposite direction. As quickly as he could, Tevryn turned his vehicle around and wove in and out of traffic until he spied her turning into one of the organic grocery stores in Issaquah—there was more than one. He circled back around and then entered the parking lot from a different entrance and drove until he located her vehicle. He parked several rows away and then headed into the grocery store to see if he could somehow ‘accidentally bump’ into her and wrangle taking her out for dinner or even a drink.

Once he was inside, he grabbed a cart and wandered through the store picking up items he would be able to use. If nothing else, he could get some good take-out food. He smiled as he realized he didn’t need to hear or see her; he could feel her presence. She was in the next aisle, headed his way. Tevryn picked up the pace and went careening around the corner, running his basket into hers and nearly knocking her off her feet and sending several of her items flying.

“Oh my god. What kind of oaf am I? I’m so sorry.”

“It’s fine.”

She started to bend over to pick things up off the floor at the same time Tevryn did and they banged their heads against each other.

“And again, I’m causing you bodily harm and not in a fun way…”

She looked up at him and smiled. “Is there a fun way to cause bodily harm?”

“Only if both parties are consenting adults. You’re Delaney Pierce, right? We met the other night up in Edmonds. I’m…”

“Tevryn,” she said, proving that at least he’d made some kind of impression. “Just Tevryn—kind of like Cher.”

“Very much so, although I don’t have her voice, but I do believe like her and the cockroaches, I’ll survive the apocalypse.”

Delaney smiled—she had a glorious smile. “I wonder about that. You know, whether I really want to survive the apocalypse?”

“I think it would depend on who else survived, and what it would be like. I think with the right group of people and right set of circumstances, it might be an enormous adventure and one worth taking.”

Her smile got bigger. “I think you might be right. In the right kind of situation, it might prove to be a huge challenge.”

He looked down and realized she was missing a shoe. Time to turn on the charm. He kneeled to pick it up, softly touching her ankle. “May I?”

“We really have to stop meeting like this,” she said.

“As long as we keep meeting, Cinderella, I really don’t mind how or why.” He slipped her shoe back on. “But I think you should know, back in the Victorian era, with the number of times I’ve not only seen your bare ankle, but touched it, we’d have to be engaged by now or your name would be forever besmirched by the scandal.”

That made her laugh out loud. “Do you really think so?” she asked, batting her eyes provocatively.

Running his hand up the back of her leg, he stood and leaned into her.

“I have to tell you, if I thought it would have the desired result, I would be perfectly fine with that.”

“And what result is it that you would desire?”

Tangling his hand in her hair, he said softly, “Having you in my bed.”

Chapter 6

Tevryn

Before she could stop him, or he could stop himself, he lowered his head, brushing his lips against hers as he had the night in Edmonds. There was no resistance in her body, and she seemed to melt into him as if they had been doing this since the beginning of time. Arousal surged through his body like a wildfire. She moaned as he pressed his mouth to hers and slid his tongue past her lips to waltz with hers.

“Mine,” he whispered possessively before he could stop himself, giving her hair the gentlest of tugs.
