“Did you invite someone over?” She came out into the hall and stared at the source of the intrusion.

I rubbed the back of my neck. “I believe it’s time that I introduce you to my brothers.” I pulled the door open and, to no surprise, standing in the hallway were Gaap and Seere.

“Sorry to have missed the housewarming party,” Seere snarked. “Our invite must have gotten lost.”

I furrowed my brow in mocking disdain then pulled him in for a hug. “You better have brought a present.”

“Good to see you, too, brother.” Seere stepped into the kitchen and made room for Gaap to come in behind him.

Gaap was not alone. His human companion clung to his side as he nodded to me in greeting. “This is my wife, Pru,” he announced. “Pru, this is the Prince of Envy.”

I stole a look behind me at Celeste, who seemed more surprised about my title than the two demons on her doorstep.

Pru rolled her eyes, obviously exhausted by being dragged to middle-of-the-night family meetings. “How many brothers do you have?”

“Six.” Gaap beamed at me.

“I promise Vassago isn’t as bad as Oro,” Seere interjected.

Pru laughed and snapped her wit back at him “Is he as bad as you? Oro is a puppy compared to the prissy Prince of Wrath.”

“Vass is his own brand of ruthless.” Seere grinned darkly, and I heard a squeak from my Celeste.

“Hmm.” Pru surveyed me once more. “From what I can see, as long as he has this babe behind him, he’s just as whipped as Oro.”

They all shared a chuckle, and I shut the door behind them then ushered everyone into the living room.

I pulled Celeste under my arm, and she looked up at me. Thousands of questions swirled in her eyes, but there would be time for that later.

Pru bounded forward and extended her hand to Celeste. With the most charming smile, she said, “I’m really glad to meet you, Celeste. Do you mind if I grab a glass of water? The void is dry and always leaves me parched.”

Celeste gave her a small, grateful smile and took her hand. “Nice to meet you too. I think I need something stronger than water for this. Wine?”

“I actually don’t drink, but I know these guys won’t turn you down. Do you have whiskey?”

“God, yes.”

Together, they turned into the kitchen with Gaap calling behind them, “Don’t bring Father into this, beautiful.”

Pru stuck her tongue out over her shoulder at him.

I leaned against the wall, my arms crossed and waiting for the scolding I was sure they were here to deliver.

Pru and Celeste came back with several glasses, a bottle of bourbon that Seere had sent me, and two soft drinks. Celeste set everything on the coffee table then started pouring everyone a drink. She brought one to me and took one for herself before allowing me to drape an arm around her.

“Skål.” Seere raised his glass then downed half in one gulp.

Everyone followed.

“Right. Now down to business.” Seere set his glass down with a loud clink then clapped his hands together.

I narrowed my eyes at him.

“What business?” Celeste looked up at me for the answer.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm my aggravation.

“We need your book, hun,” Pru said. She was perched on Gaap’s lap as his hand smoothed up and down her thigh.
