“I need to talk to you,” Xavier tells me, ignoring Sofia yelling at him. She’s significantly shorter than him, so he just looks over her head and blocks out her words from his ears.

I almost laugh at the image but don’t let myself.

I’m mad at him.

But those beautiful eyes and stunning smile always lower my guard.

“I swear to God, Xavier, if you don’t leave right now, I’ll call security.” Sofia’s hands are on her hips.

“I’m not leaving until Vio tells me to leave.” He looks at me in question.

“That’s not fair. You know how vulnerable she is around you,” Cleo adds into the conversation.

Him being here in general is going to distract me, but I know I’ve found enough focus to withstand his words. I haven’t seen him in months and if I don’t talk to him, I’ll be questioning his intentions the whole game, which will result in fogging my thoughts during the game.

I’m strong enough now to hear his words.

“Leave.” Sofia points at the door.

“I broke up with Marrisa!” he shouts.

I am physically still, not having said anything in the past minutes that Cleo and Sofia have tried to get him to leave.

Chanel was sitting down silently, but when Xavier says those words, her head snaps up with her focus no longer on her phone.

All of us are caught off guard.

“Leave.” My word reverberates in the room.

He looks defeated walking out. “Not you, them.” I stop Xavier from walking out the door and the rest of my entourage looks at me, surprised.

“What?” Sofia’s eyes are wide. “You told me to not let him in under any circumstance.”

“Ouch,” Xavier jokes.

“This is not about you!” Sofia turns around and points at him condescendingly.

“If I don’t talk to him, Sofia, my mental game is just going to get worse. Trust me, I’ll be fine,” I reassure her.

She looks indecisive. “Okay, but kick him in the balls if he says some dumb shit.”

“I’m right here!” he says again.

“I know. That’s the whole point. Let’s go,” she tells Cleo. Chanel already walked out when I told them to leave.

With one last glare from Cleo and Sofia, they close the door behind them.

Once it clicks, signifying it’s closed, I stand up and cross my arms.

“You wanted to talk, so talk.” I encourage him to say something. I can’t deal with silence between us.

“You were right to walk out when you did. Vio, I’ve been an asshole. These last few weeks have been some of the worst of my life because I wasn’t with you. I had to go to see my mom because I was so depressed, I didn’t want to get up half the time. My racing has gotten worse because I had no contact with you and none of that is your fault. It’s all mine. When I was in Brazil, I realized a lot. My mom and I had a talk, and she gave me a letter from my father. They both told me the same thing that you’ve told me. I’ve been too stupid to listen.”

He finishes and I stay silent.

I don’t know what to say.

Xavier knows that, so he cuts the silence with something I never expected to fall from his lips. “I went to go meet my biological father.” The pain reverberates off him.
