At that moment, I don’t care about the barrier I’ve built between us.

My legs move fast to hug him.

“I’m so sorry you went through that and had no one to talk to about it.” I feel bad now; he’s been through so much.

“That’s the thing. I needed to learn how to do it on my own. If I had done it with you, the same cycle would have happened. You leaving was meant to happen. You had to choose yourself so I could choose myself too. But the thing I realized the most was that I can’t live without you. I need you, Violetta Luna, more than I need to breathe air. I just hope I’m not too late to ask you to be with me.”

“Are you asking me to be your girlfriend?” I question with the quirk of my eyebrow.

He shakes his head, smiling from ear to ear.

There’s my Xavier.

“I don’t like calling you my girlfriend because it just doesn’t feel right. You’re so much more than that.”

I stay silent. “Xavier, I think we’re better as friends.”

“What?” Shock crosses his features; he looks hurt at my confession.

It makes me burst out laughing. “I’m messing with you.” I continue laughing and Xavier lets out a relieved breath.

“Don’t ever do that again.” He pulls me into his arms.

“You should have seen your face.” I’m still laughing.

“That was heartless.”

“Yea, yea, I needed that.” I wave him off.

He stifles my laughter by pulling me into him closer and his lips press to mine.

I melt into him. God, I’ve missed his lips.

I’ve missed him.

I break the kiss. “You know I’m still hurt, right? You breaking up with her doesn’t erase everything.” Our noses touch.

“I know, but I plan on working on deserving you.”

“Do you really?” My face is serious. I need him to know that I need actions, not words.

“Yes, I will grovel for the rest of my life if that means I could be with you for a single second before I leave this earth.”

Chapter71

Violetta

The Wimbledon final begins with a surge of energy as I step onto Centre Court.

I’m finally here, after years of working for it.

I’ve done it. I’ve made it.

One thing I told myself before this match was that I have nothing to lose. I’ve never won a grand slam and quite frankly making it to the final is enough for me.

But the newfound part of myself wants to fight. This could be the day I achieve what my ten-year self dreamed of.

The crowd’s cheers and applause wash over me, their support serving as a powerful motivator.
