“Don’t worry, I have nicknames for everyone, so no one feels left out.” He winks at Cleo with a smug grin. “You’re Sparkles.” He points at her. “You’re Peach.” He points at Chanel. “And last but certainly not least, you’re Blondie.” He looks me straight in the eyes, finishing his tangent. His smile is so bright it could light the Eiffel Tower.

“Okay, so now that we’ve gone over that. You should probably pay attention to the eggs you haven’t flipped in a few minutes,” Chanel tells him in a monotone voice.

“Shit.” He turns around and quickly finishes the eggs before he grabs one of the biggest Tupperware in the kitchen and places at least fifteen eggs in it.

I walk over to close the sliding glass doors so that the air conditioning kicks in. Hopefully, Xavier puts a shirt on so I can eat peacefully and my sisters don’t jump on the guy.

“I made a lot! I eat quite a bit, so hopefully, there’s enough for everyone,” Xavier says as I make my way over to a stool sitting under the island. Cleo and Chanel follow behind me.

He grabs a few plates, hands them to us, and then begins to serve himself. I have never seen a man eat so much in my life. He piles five pieces of French toast onto his plate, three cups of eggs, and finally ten pieces of bacon. I just stare at his plate, dumbfounded.

“What?” Xavier asks, noticing me staring.

“Nothing, I just didn’t know you eat so much; Ale eats a lot of plant-based food to build muscle and stay light in the car,” I say, immediately regretting mentioning my best friend’s name. I don’t even know if she’s my best friend anymore. The thought makes my heart sink.

“It’s winter break, so I eat what I normally would if I didn’t have to weigh a certain amount all season,” he responds.

I nod, then grab a plate. I’m practically drooling as I serve myself.

My stomach grumbles from the smell alone.

“Have you eaten at all?” Xavier questions.

“No, she doesn’t eat before she works out,” Chanel cuts in.

“I just have a protein shake before training. If I eat, I feel like I’ll throw up.” My tone is nonchalant.

“You need to eat before, especially here with the way the heat is. You will pass out otherwise. What time do you wake up?” He’s curious.

Confused, I respond nonetheless. “Seven thirty,” I say.

Cleo chips in, “How you wake up so early will always astound me.” She shivers in disgust.

Xavier chuckles before he grabs the syrup and dabs a little on the minimal space left on his plate.

When I finish serving myself, I grab the syrup and lift every single piece of French toast on top of the first. My fingers open the lid, and I douse it in syrup. Then I put the other piece on top and repeat the process.

Xavier stops eating, dumbfounded. “I have never seen a person put so much maple syrup on a single piece of French toast!” He’s teasing me.

So I decide to tease him back. “Just you wait,” I tell him before I grab the butter and mix it in with the syrup. I put the butter down.

His face spreads dramatically in disgust, and I let out a laugh.

“That’s a crime,” he points out.

“Vio has a thing for sweet food. If you think that’s bad, you should see her go-to snack.” Cleo snorts before she takes a bite out of a piece of bacon.

“To be fair, it’s the best thing I’ve ever tasted.” I defend myself before I take my knife and fork, cutting into a long-awaited bite of food this morning.

“What is this go-to snack? Will I be horrified for the rest of my life?” Xavier’s tone is cautious.

“It’s a piece of toast, melted butter, maple syrup, peanut butter, and broken pieces of a Snickers bar on top.”

Xavier drops his fork and stares at me like I’ve committed murder.

“No,” he replies.

“Yes.” I grin at his reaction.
