“Just get in!” Between every word, she grunts while gradually attempting to shove her in, and I can’t help but laugh.

“Ow!” Cleo repeats once again. Chanel gives her one last final push and successfully gets her inside. Cleo crawls into the farthest seat as her twin takes a deep breath before fixing her hair and patting down her clothes. Chanel proceeds to squeeze through the small opening into the seat right next to her sister with much more grace than Cleo.

“See, we all fit!” I say, trying not to laugh before I push the seat back and hop into the driver’s seat.

The passenger side door opens, and Xavier sits down uncomfortably. It’s too small for him, but it’ll work for now.

Inserting the key, I turn on the ignition.

“Ready, Blondie?” Xavier asks.

“Nope.”

He laughs as I back up out of the driveway.

Chapter12

Violetta

“Go right,” Cleo directs, her body cramped up next to Chanel.

“I swear to God, if this car doesn’t stop in the next few minutes, no one in this car will like my comments.” Chanel tries to readjust her position and fails.

“Relajate, ya estamos aqui.” Cleo’s eyes roll to the back of her head at her sister’s complaint.

I stop the car in front of a literal jungle.

“Where’s the cliff?” I ask Cleo.

“We have to walk through the trees for a few minutes before we see it. Thankfully, it’s private, and there’s a beach that leads to a cave that takes us right back here.”

“How many times have you snuck out when we were here in Acapulco?” My eyes glare at her with protective intent.

“Pretty much every… time.” She’s not nervous saying it, so I just let my rebuttal grind between my teeth, open the door, and feel my sandal hit the dirt below me. Before I can reach for the lever, Chanel pulls it down promptly, getting out of the car in haste.

“I will not do that again,” she scolds, stretching out and trying to press out the wrinkles in her clothes.

“Okay, we’ll just leave you here. Which is a great idea because that means more space for me,” Cleo whispers close to her ear. Chanel shivers in disgust.

“To be fair, I have the longest legs, so you guys should be worried about my well-being,” Xavier says in a hurtful tone.

“Yea, well, you’re a Formula One driver. Get used to it.” Chanel pats him on the chest as she walks through the branches.

Xavier laughs, and all I can see is Chanel’s perfectly manicured nails swatting bugs away as her designer sandals sink into the soil step by step.

This is Chanel’s idea of hell.

I follow Cleo, hearing Xavier’s footsteps behind me.

We walk for a few minutes before seeing the sun peeking in more and more through the big leaves. Next thing I know, my feet are on a solid surface, and I witness the prettiest view I’ve witnessed in a long time.

The cliffs line up with the rock formations, which are composed of different patterns. I can hear the waves crash against each other as the smell of the sea hits my senses. The sky is a clear, cerulean blue with no clouds in sight. A few birds fly past, and my head turns toward them.

I feel calm.

“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” Cleo is staring out into the horizon; Xavier’s face is in awe, and Chanel seems surprisingly at peace for once.

It truly is beautiful.
