Candace nodded. “I’ll ensure your safety, of course. You will not want for the usual luxuries you enjoy, too, but Vanessa can’t come. You must be only seen with me.”

“Why is that?”

“If you’re on my arm with Vanessa around, people will think I’m merely borrowing you for my own ego. I want them to know that I’m powerful and influential enough to completely detach you from her hip.”

“You wouldn’t be the first to hire me to be their date for an event.”

“This isn’t to feed into your kink. This is to advance our careers. I have no intention of having my way with you,Michelle.”

She said that with such finality that even Mitch was taken aback.I knew she was denying her lust for me, but woof.Candace was a powder keg of potential.Good thing I’m not single in the scene.Desperation? If Mitch had no idea what Candace did in her secret club, she’d be all over this woman with desperation dripping from her teeth. She’s so much like Vanessa, but without the soul.

“I’ll have to get my Mistress’s permission, of course,” Mitch said.

“I’ll speak with her. I know you won’t come cheap for this event, so I’ll make sure you’re properly compensated this weekend.”

“You won’t be at the club?”

“Things are sporadic until the end of the year. The holidays, you know. For every weekend I’ll be closed due to a lack of interest, there will be twice as many people looking for fun to stave off the seasonal depression. Happens every year.”

“Vanessa and I would love to make our own plans. If you have any idea…”

Candace cut her off. “I’ll let her know which weekends we’ll for sure be closed, and which I know I’ll need you there showing off your body. Don’t worry. I know you don’t belong to me, no matter how much I pay you.”

She kept saying things like that. Things like“I know I don’t own you, Mitch.”Why would she keep repeating that if something wasn’t permanently on her mind?

“Do I displease you, Ms. Lister?”

That caught Candace off guard, but not enough that she dismissed Mitch from her presence. “How could you displease me? You’re the perfect woman.”

“You said so yourself that perfection doesn’t exist.”

“I said you didn’t displease me, but I said nothing about you rankling me. Because you do. You remind me of everything I want in a woman, Michelle, but that I can never have. Trust me. I’ve had my share of partners over the years. I’ve even indulged in male submissives, thinking they could possibly give me what was missing from my female acquaintances. They all leave me wanting. They all lack… something. You, though? If you were unattached, you’d be the most dangerous specimen walking free in my sight. I’d have you the moment we met.”

“Not now? My Mistress wouldn’t mind.”

“I’m not interested in women I can’t completely have.”

Mitch took that to heart as she interlaced her fingers before her face. “I am.”

She briefly met Candace’s ruthless gaze before the woman busied herself with the contents of her purse. Soon, she snapped her fingers to summon the waitress with hazel eyes and a prominent nose. The alacrity with which she responded to Candace put another thought in Mitch’s head.

“The upstairs office. Ten minutes.” Candace gripped the waitress’s arm when she said that. As soon as she released her, the waitress bowed her head and excused herself. She was already removing her apron as she walked into the backroom.

“I see,” Mitch said. “Here I was wondering if you had any outlet at all, ma’am.”

“I’ve told you and many others… I’ve trained these girls myself.”

How much does this one owe you?How deep did this go? Did Candace hook these young women into owing tens of thousands of dollars – or more – simply so she could coerce them into paying the debt back with their bodies? Or was the waitress like Thalia, a willing dalliance if it meant she got attention for a few hours?

“I think you’ll find I could use more training too, ma’am.”

Candace shook her head as if Mitch had truly overstepped her bounds. “You’re obliged to another person’s will. I would only bother training you myself if I was foolish enough to think you mine.”

“The more you say that the truer it sounds.”

“I think you should go, Michelle.”

Mitch left, but only because she didn’t want to push Candace so far that the investigation was ruined.I have to get to the bottom of this. I have to discover exactly how her operation works, how deep it goes, and how many women she’s irreparably harmed.Mitch owed it to the women like Thalia who had been roped into this bullshit with only a promise of something sacred. She definitely owed it to the victims who might not live to testify against this witch when the time finally came.
