“That’s not true.”

“It is. None of them are good enough for you, and if I see one of them try something with you, I don’t trust myself to not break his jaw.”

Holy crap. Was it wrong that I found his possessive side sexy as hell?

Hunter was in rare form tonight. His eyes bored into mine until he saw me swallow, smirking at the effect he was having on me.

“No one is going to try something here,” I reasoned. This wasn’t a frat party.

“Every man in this room wants you right now,” he disagreed in a tone laced with jealousy.

When flames heated my cheeks, Hunter’s smirk widened, and he leaned in and whispered, “I guarantee they’re imagining getting you alone, pulling this dress off of you.”

My increasing pool of blood beneath my skin appeared to egg him on even more.

“And pleasuring you until they see what face you make when they bring you to the brink.”

My heart throbbed in my chest, and I stammered, “Well, they wouldn’t be able to…I’ve never…I wouldn’t know…”

Hunter’s gaze flamed with desire, staring at me like the entire party suddenly vanished around us. This time, he leaned in even closer, his hot breath tickling my ear as he whispered, “Luna, so help me, if you tell me you’re a virgin, I won’t be able to control myself.”

“No, I’m not…I…I’ve been with one man, but…”

“One?” His eyes widened with a spark. “But what?” he challenged.

“I…in college, that guy and I…but he never…”

God, this was embarrassing. Verbal diarrhea spewing from my mouth.

“But he never made you come.”

Good Lord. Hearing that word out of Hunter’s mouth did all sorts of naughty things to my lady parts. Him looking spellbinding in a tux, his hair with a different polish to it, smelling so delicious—sandalwood with a citrus edge—I wanted to bury my nose against his skin. All not helping.

I put my hand over my eyes. “Can we please talk about something else?”

Hunter was silent for several heartbeats, and then he gently pulled my hand away from my face, his gaze so fierce, it cut into my soul. According to the blogs, this guy had more sexual experience than a Hollywood star. His chest rose and fell faster as he looked over my entire body again, pulling his lower lip between his teeth, before finally angling himself closer.

“Luna…” His voice dropped to a sultry whisper, the words rolling off his tongue with a predatory smoothness that made me quiver. “If you wanted to stay platonic, you really shouldn’t have told me that.”

I swallowed under the ferocity of his stare.

“Because now,” he said, the heat of his breath once again tickling my ear, “the only thing I’m going to be able to think about all night is burying my tongue inside of you until you scream my name.”

Holy mother of…

A flash of heat radiated down my stomach, between my thighs, imagining him doing just that. Craving it, if I were being honest. And as Hunter stared at me with a flame of need, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to resist him if he tried…

“I’ll attempt to behave myself tonight.” Hunter extended his elbow to me, his eyes glued to my face. “But I can’t make any guarantees.”

I don’t want you to behave…

CHAPTER26

Hunter

How the hell was I going to get through this damn party? Now I only wanted—could only focus on—one thing: Luna’s thighs spread open in front of me.

As a billionaire, I’d been able to acquire almost everything I longed to have.
