“Well,” Gemma let out a breath and slapped her hands down on her thighs, “if you’re happy, I’m happy.”

“Really?” Sam straightened up in surprise.

“Yes.” Gemma stood, lifting Levi into her arms and reaching to hug Sam around the shoulders. “You supported me when I wanted to be with Zed despite what we thought was going on. I’m gonna support you, too. I hope it all works out.”

Sam’s heart fluttered as she hugged her friend. “Thank you.”

“Hey,” Aero said, entering the living room and rounding the coffee table, handing a mug of coffee to Sam but keeping his eyes on Gemma.

“Hi.” Gemma smiled.

“Are we good?” Aero asked, glancing down at Sam.

“Yeah. It’s all good.”

“I do have to tell you if you hurt her, you’ll answer to me,” Gemma cocked a brow and Aero smirked.

“Yes, Mom,” he said sarcastically and Gemma laughed.

“Gemma, baby, let’s go,” Zed called, sticking his head into the room.

“Yeah.” Gemma stood, hoisting Levi up and approaching her husband.

“What’s up?” Zed asked, his dark brows pulling together as he assessed the group.

“Oh, Sam and Aero are dating,” Gemma said airily, eager to see her husband’s reaction to the news.

“I know,” Zed said automatically, then bit his lip as he looked at Gemma. “Shit.”

She gasped and smacked his arm playfully. “You knew?”

“Sorry, Red, I was sworn to secrecy.” Zed grinned, taking Levi and holding him against his chest. “You can’t kill me, I’m holding our baby.”

Gemma tossed her head back and laughed. Sam smiled at them as they walked out of the room together, catching Gemma tucking her hand into Zed’s back pocket. They were so in love it almost hurt to watch. Sam wondered if she and Aero would ever be that comfortable.

“So,” Aero said, sitting next to her. “The cat’s out of the bag.”

“I think it went well,” Sam said, sipping her coffee. Looking down into the brown liquid she frowned.

“What’s wrong?” Aero asked when he saw her face.

“What’d you put in this?” Sam asked, taking another sip.

“Half and half and stevia,” he muttered, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.

Tears pricked the back of Sam’s eyes. He figured out how she took her coffee and then made it perfectly for her. It was such a simple act, but made her feel like a princess.

“Thank you,” Sam said, smiling into her mug.

Aero smiled, sipping his black coffee.

They sat together for two more cups of coffee, talking until Sam was seated sideways, her feet in his lap, discussing everything from work to music to politics.

Aero was shocked when he glanced up and saw it was past noon.

They’d been there for hours, and not once did he get uncomfortable or have any negative reactions. He swallowed hard, the realization that he was okay, that he was safe and comfortable with Sam making him exhale contentedly, shifting to wrap his arm around her shoulders and kiss her temple. He even smiled when Gunner walked past the living room doorway, spotted their intimate embrace, and made a surprised gasping noise before hurrying up the stairs.

Sam peeked up at him, observing the dusting of stubble on his square jaw. Reaching up slowly, she stroked it with her fingertips. He sighed. “Aero? We’re having a Halloween event at school. It’s a truck or treat for the kids on Halloween. If you’ll be there, would you want to, maybe, come with me?”
