“It was like my heart stopped beating,” Aero said, “and then I met you.”

Sam blushed as he looked at her.

“I can’t tell you all you’ve done for me, Sammy.” He leaned down and kissed her forehead.

“I just wanna see you heal,” Sam said, gazing up at him. “I want you to be happy.”

“I’m happy with you,” Aero said truthfully.

“Me too, love,” Sam smiled, leaning her head against his shoulder.

Aero felt a thousand pounds lighter. He’d told Sam everything, yet here she was still holding his hand. She was truly one of a kind, and he wondered how he’d been so lucky as to run into her at the clubhouse. Like everyone else, being with the Iron Dragons had made a huge impact on the outcome of their lives, and Aero smiled out at the waves of the ocean, his chest swelling with hope.

“Aero?” Sam said, pulling him from his thoughts.

“Yeah, Sammy?” he said.

“I don’t feel any differently about you now,” Sam said, wondering if he was concerned that his admission would change her feelings for him.

“Really?” Aero asked, and she nodded.

“I’d like to know more about them if you don’t mind. Not right now, but when you’re ready. I’d like to get to know Nora and Sarah.”

“I’d like that,” Aero said gruffly, the sound of their names from Sam sounding sweet and kind, making his heart clench.

“Did I ruin the beach for you?” Aero asked, wondering if he should have told her everything elsewhere.

“No,” Sam said, snuggling against him. “It’s still beautiful, and now I’ll remember it as the place you shared everything with me. You trusted me.”

Aero smiled. “I trust you.”

“Good,” Sam murmured, feeling the air around them shift.

“Sammy,” Aero said huskily, getting her attention. “Come here.”

She went, depositing herself in his lap and kneeling on the sand as he gripped her hips, holding her against him.

“Kiss me,” Aero beseeched, and she smiled before swooping in and claiming his mouth.

“Mmm,” Sam hummed, holding the back of his head and kissing him deeply.

They kissed desperately, stealing each other’s breath, as the passionate embrace went on and on.

Aero pulled back slightly, his breathing uneven. “Do you still wanna be with me?”

“Yes,” Sam said immediately. “I want you.”

If anything, Sam wanted him more now that he had shared his pain with her. She wanted to protect him, to hold him, and to love him.

Aero smiled. “Not tonight, Sammy. I wanna be with you, but not after this.”

“Okay,” Sam said, kissing his forehead. “That’s fine.”

She was slightly disappointed but understood. He wanted their first time to be between them, unspoiled by anything negative.

“I just want it to be perfect for you,” Aero murmured against her lips.

Sam smiled. “It will be.”
