“A dating app?” Leo couldn’t move on from that bit as he looked at Kai. “Seriously, dude? You?”

Kai laughed, just a little, then—“What a cheek. It’s a good app.”

Quint seemed to fight a smile too. “I should have stopped texting Kai,” he said gently. “I don’t know what I was thinking, but to be honest, I’m kind of getting the feeling you’re not really feeling whatever’s been going on with us anyway.”

Leo frowned and looked away. “No, no I don’t think I was.” He looked up. “You still okay with me, though? Last night I guess I really was just looking for an excuse to break things off.” He didn’t want to hurt Quint anymore by telling him about Cody.

Quint nodded. “It’s okay. I appreciate your honesty. And I’d hate there to be any bad feelings between us that gets you wandering the London streets again. We did come looking.”

Leo nodded. “I know. Thank you. I’m a big lad here, though.” He let a smile creep in. “But you two. I bloody knew there was something, though. I was right, wasn’t I? Did you get to the angry sex part yet?”

Kai coughed, nearly choked as Quint blushed. “Um, not quite,” said Kai, and the smile he gave was dark.

“And on that note,” said Quint, tugging Leo away and throwing a look back at Kai that Leo swore said… maybe. “We’re all gonna need to get on, because we’re still gonna be seeing a lot of each other.”

Kai frowned along with Leo.

“Oh yeah? Why’s that?” asked Leo.

Quint grinned. “I’ve got my love of music back, it seems. I’m going back to work at Wrap’d.”

Kai was about to say something when Quint’s phone cut in. The apology in Quint’s eyes was heavy. Him and Kai, they definitely had unfinished business that belonged in some x-rated bedroom, but they were cut off at the pass again.

“Yeah?” Quint frowned as someone spoke over the phone. “Okay, okay, slow it down. I’ll be there in a moment.” He looked Kai’s way. “I’ll be back, I promise, I just need to sort this call out, okay?”

Kai nodded, and Leo got a smile his way off Quint.

“I’m glad we’re gonna be okay,” Quint said before he left. “But I just need to sort this. Look after Kai for me.”

ChapterTwenty-Nine

Quint nearly choked on a bite of Mona’s delicious ciabatta as he dropped his napkin on the table. “Say that again,” he said to Cody. “You found Tim last night and he’s who?”

Sat opposite, Cody passed over his phone. “Look.” He brought up a clip on TikTok that Quint knew all too well. “Leo. That’s Tim. I’m so sure of it.”

Quint didn’t know how to react, but it all hit home now: Leo’s reaction with wanting to get close to Quint—he’d unconsciously picked up on Cody’s essence, confusing him as much as Leo had confused Quint.

What a mess. But… Quint buried a smile for Leo. Oh that lad had some things to look forward to, and Quint could definitely let it go that Leo hadn’t told him he’d met someone last night.

And Cody… he needed to know. Quint took him through it, about mistaking Leo for Kai, the whole story.

Cody’s demeanour changed slightly.

“What is it?”

“What if I’m wrong like you were? What if I picked up his essence from someone else?”

There was always that. “We all just have to go with the flow, with our instincts,” said Quint. “But does it feel right with Leo?”

Cody nodded. “It feels so right, familiar even. In my heart, I feel like it’s him.”

“Maybe you’ll get a sign from the universe soon. Either way, I’m thrilled we’ll all be able to hang out in the future.” Quint couldn’t wait to tell Kai and put his soul at ease too.

If things started to move fast between Cody and Leo, they would all definitely be seeing a lot more of each other.

After a long conversation with Will, Quint had decided to return to Wrap’d as Konshus’s executive producer. It seemed Will had listened to his engineers, Carl and Andy, noting how much happier they were working with people of discernible talent and a passion for music such as Leo and Kai. This made Quint happy about returning there. A new talent scout had been employed to search out more acts like Konshus to try and turn the tables around so that Wrap’d could win back its reputation of nurturing quality talent.

“Ever since I met you,” Cody said eventually, “I’ve learned so much, met so many amazing people. I can’t thank you enough, Quint.”
