I was staying.

Which meant I could keep my promise to Katherine.

Entering the common room, I had just slipped into my favorite hiding spot when the front doors of the clubhouse opened, and in walked the most beautiful creature I’d ever seen. Standing straighter, I couldn’t stop looking at her. Her hair was like a ray of sunshine, brightening up the entire room. The sun had left a warm, golden kiss on her skin and her smile was so radiant that it could melt even the hardest of hearts.

She was enchanting.

A Goddess.

I’d seen no one like her before. Quietly, she smiled at the young boy next to her when she looked in my direction.

The second our eyes met I knew.

I felt a flicker of something deep inside me. Like a deep connection, as if our souls had met before. Drawn to her like a moth to a flame, I stepped out of the shadows without fear as she turned to face me.

“Sunny!” a woman shouted from upstairs. “Can you help me, please?”

“Coming, Remi,” the angel whispered, not moving as the world shifted between us. For the longest time, I felt like a puzzle piece that didn’t quite fit anywhere, lost in a sea of mismatched shapes. I lacked any sense of passion or drive, feeling adrift in a sea of uncertainty. I thought when Katherine came to save me, we would have a chance at something, maybe a family. I never had a family and wanted one.

She was gone now, and all I had left was my promise.

Everything had changed when Katherine died.

Now, it has changed again.

I found a purpose, and her name was Sunny.

My Sunshine.

Chapter Three

Sunny

As I gasped for air, I reluctantly opened my eyes and found myself surrounded by an impenetrable abyss of darkness.

Where was I?

With every step, I could feel the dampness of the mist and fog clinging to my legs, adding an ethereal touch to the surrounding emptiness. I had an overwhelming sense of being transported to a desolate and barren landscape, where the sight of emptiness seemed to go on indefinitely. The deafening silence that permeated the surrounding air resonated with an unspoken message, igniting a cascade of fear that quivered deep within my bones.

“Hello!”

The sound of my voice echoed all around.

A chill whipped around me.

Turning, I saw nothing.

As I stood alone in the darkness, I could feel the emptiness surrounding me. Hugging my stomach, a wave of unease washed over me as his voice echoed in the silence.“Remember when we first met, Sunny?”

“Solomon?”

I spun in circles, my heart racing, as the darkness pressed closer, enveloping me.

“I’m here, Solomon!”

“I do. Like it was yesterday.”

“SOLOMON!”
