“What the fuck was that?” Bayou asked.

“Crazy motherfucker,” Reaper cursed.

Turning swiftly, I shouted. “He’s not crazy!”

I ran from the kitchen all the way upstairs to the room I had for when I was at the club. Shutting the door behind me, I leaned against the door, letting my books fall to the floor as I touched my cheeks. My heart beat a mile a minute and when I could finally catch my breath, I smiled.

Chapter Four

Sandman

I did what Jessica said.

I kept talking to her.

Even when the doctors and nurses kept coming in and interrupting me, I never stopped talking.

I can’t remember the last time I talked so much. I never really talked before I met Sunny. Maybe a few words here and there. I knew how to speak. I just never did. I learned early on that talking got me nowhere.

No one wanted to hear what I had to say.

All they cared about was what I could do.

Yet, with Sunny, she wanted to hear my thoughts.

She cared about how I felt.

She encouraged me to speak.

“How are you, Solomon?”

Looking up at Jessica, I shrugged. I didn’t know what to say. I wanted to tell her I was worried. That I had this great fear bubbling up inside me that was slowly overtaking me. I wanted to scream and threaten everyone to make my sunshine wake up. They were the professionals. It was their job to make her better, and all they did was watch and take notes. They were doing nothing, and it was pissing me off.

“Her vitals have stabilized. That’s good news.”

“Jessica?”

“Yes,” she whispered, writing something down in Sunny’s chart.

“Do you think she will wake up?”

Jessica sighed, closing the chart before taking a good long look at my sunshine before saying, “I believe miracles happen every day. I believe that the human spirit is stronger than most people believe and while the odds are against her, I believe that your love for her can bring her back to you. I love Savage. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for that man, but the love you feel for Sunny is something beyond my imagination. I’ve read stories about love like you two share. What you and Sunny have is magical. I don’t know any other way to describe it. The two of you are so different, yet so similar. Almost as if you both share the same soul. So yes, Solomon, I do believe she will wake up because there is no Solomon without Sunny. Give her time, let her body heal, and keep talking to her. She will find her way back to you.”

Saying nothing more, I watched as Jessica left the room.

Turning to my sunshine, I whispered. “You hear that, Sunny? Jess believes in you as I do. Remember the night we first danced? It was the night of your prom...”

I was going to kill Chaos.

He had no right.

She belonged to me.

She was mine.

My Sunshine.

She didn’t have to go to some stupid dance if she didn’t want to. Didn’t they see the light dim in her eyes? I saw it. I saw everything. They were making her uncomfortable. For that alone, I should kill them. No one hurts my sunshine. If she wanted to go to some stupid dance, then she will and I would make sure she was safe, not Billy, the fucking prospect.
