“What the fuck!” several of the brothers cursed as Bullseye and Savage both stood.

“Is that what I think it is?” Bullseye growled.

I nodded, pulling my hand back, and putting my leather cuff back on.

“You are a fucking brother in two MC’s?!”

“Yes.”

Bullseye immediately cleared church. The only brothers still in the room were the officers, which now comprised Bullseye, Savage, Player, Matrix, Phantom, Massacre, and Slaughter.

Taking a seat at the end of the table, I said nothing as my family looked at me, confused.

“Solomon,” Phantom began. “Sweetie, we need you to explain this to us. How is this possible?”

“I was sixteen when I left Florida. After James Doherty gave me a cut, I stole Toxic’s bike and left. I wanted to find Jessica. She was the only family I had. I looked everywhere for her, but she was gone. So, I traveled around for a while. I found I liked it when I was alone in the forest. I camped a lot back then. That’s where I met Hawk and the others. I didn’t know I was on their property. They found me and offered me a place to stay.”

“That’s it?” Savage asked. “You just joined them?”

I shook my head. “No. Not at first. In the beginning, Hawk and the others took me under their wing. They taught me how to fight properly. To make sure I knew how to defend myself and how to stay under the radar.”

“Why do I feel there is more to this story?” Bullseye asked, leaning back in his chair as his eyes bore into mine. Refusing to say anything more, he sighed. “All right, Sandman. Keep your secrets. Savage, reach out to Hawk. Inform him that one of our brothers spotted one of his men in our territory and I want to know why I wasn’t informed.”

“That’s it?” Savage asked.

Bullseye nodded. “Yeah. Keep it simple. No names. After what happened with Satan’s Angels, I’m not taking any chances by inviting a club we know nothing about to our clubhouse. Sandman, you are going to sit down with Phantom and tell her everything you know about the Disturbed MC.”

“No.”

“Why not?”

I shrugged, saying nothing more. I hated disappointing Bullseye, but I promised Hawk and the others I would keep their secret. They took me in and gave me a home. Treated me like one of their own. Taught me everything they knew. There was no way I would dishonor them. Ever.

There was a lot about my past that I kept to myself, and it was going to stay that way. No one needed to know everything about me. Most of it was dark, anyway. Sometimes, the past was just that... the past. While I knew I disappointed Bullseye because I refused to give him anything on Hawk and the others, he should have known I would refuse before he asked.

He was like Hawk and the others.

At one point, they all lived by a code. Just because they were no longer in the military didn’t mean it stopped.

Hawk taught me that.

He taught me many things.

I owed him.

Bullseye sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “We still need to hunt down and find that son of a bitch who ran Sunny off the road. Phantom, Matrix, get with Player, and see what you can find. We need to know why and if we have more trouble coming. Sandman, we’re done here. Go see Sunny. We’ll talk later.”

Quickly leaving the room, I headed upstairs to find Sunny resting. Knowing she would sleep for a while, I made myself comfortable on the floor next to her as I reached for my phone. Hitting the green phone icon, I typed in a number I knew by heart but thought I would never use again. When the call connected, I said nothing as I heard his deep, gravelly voice sigh after minutes of silence.

“Solomon?”

Saying nothing, I let his voice wash over me like a familiar memory I rarely thought of. It had been so long since I heard his voice.

I thought when I left, I never would again.

For a few years, this man was someone I admired, trusted, and cared for deeply. They all were. They showed me that not everything was black or white. That sometimes things were not as they seemed. That I needed to look beyond the chaos of the darkness to see the heart of the matter. Only when I did that would I see the truth.

The funny thing about the truth is it’s never what you thought.
