His face paled.

His brow furrowed as he shook his head, taking a step back. “No.”

“Solomon.”

“No.” He continued to shake his head as the chart he was holding fell, clattering to the floor.

A whisper of pure fear flashed in his eyes.

“Not my Sunshine.”

“Baby, she’s here. She’s hurt badly.”

“NO!” he roared, as brothers and officers moved quickly to subdue the one man on the planet, we had no hope of containing.

Chapter Two

Sandman

I followed Jessica and Dr. Claudia down a long hall. Neither said anything to me as they huddled close, whispering. Several brothers followed behind me, along with the Fire Chief who refused to leave my side.

He kept going on about family, and family didn’t abandon family.

I didn’t have it in me to correct him.

I’d been sitting in the waiting room for hours when I watched the sun rise over the mountains. It was nice here, quiet, but it wasn’t home. I missed the ocean. So did Sunny. We talked about taking Soleil and returning to California a few nights ago. Now that all the players that posed a threat to the Golden Skulls and Remi were dead, there was nothing keeping us here in Tennessee. Sunny missed her sister and wanted to be closer to her. Her brother Jax didn’t care either way, but he had just started his sophomore year of high school, and Sunny was reluctant to transfer him, now that he had made new friends.

I just wanted whatever my sunshine wanted.

I didn’t care either way.

As long as she was happy, I would be, too.

Jessica and Dr. Claudia stopped near a door before Jess opened it and walked in. Following, I saw Bones and Stitch standing over my sunshine, checking her vitals as a machine breathed for her. I could hear her heartbeat on the machine next to her, telling me she was still alive.

“Solomon,” Jessica whispered, taking my hand. “There is a chair next to her bed, so you can sit with her.”

I didn’t need to be told again.

My sunshine needed me.

Taking the seat, I refused to touch her.

I didn’t want to cause her any more pain.

“Sandman,” Bones muttered, getting my attention. “Sunny slipped into a coma while on the operating table. The force of the crash caused major brain trauma. Right now, we have removed part of her skull to allow for swelling, but I need you to listen to me. The damage done from the accident was severe, brother. Sunny has multiple broken bones. She shattered her pelvis. We had to remove her spleen, gallbladder, and appendix. She has cuts over sixty percent of her body. Some are deep and will need cosmetic surgery to fix. But right now, we are worried about her brain function. It is uncertain what kind of damage occurred because of her being thrown from the car. We can’t assess her mental state until the swelling goes down.”

“Our baby?” I whispered, looking at my sunshine’s broken body.

“Your what?” Jessica muttered, as several of my brothers lowly cursed.

“Sunny is eight weeks pregnant.”

“With the trauma done to her body, we just don’t know. For right now, the fetus is still alive,” Stitch carefully added.

“Our baby.”

“What?” Stitch questioned, looking from Bones to me.
