“What do you mean?” Sam asked as he pulled back slightly to see my face, concern etched across his.

“She means, with the Palace and Maven. She wants to go to war.” Dave sounded completely sure of himself, and me.

“We’re already at war,” I said. “We just need to start playing our game and not theirs, so we can end it and help the world get back on track. Maybe even make it better.”

“You don’t think small, do you, sweetheart?” Sam chuckled.

“Nope, you better get used to it.”

“What do you have in mind?” Dio asked, sounding like he was already adding his name to the sign-up sheet as he ran his hand through my hair.

I smiled against Sam’s neck. “A little mayhem, probably, maybe even a tiny revolution,” I answered honestly, “but not today.”

They all chuckled and pulled in closer. I didn’t have it worked out just yet, but we were a team, a pack. We’d figure it out together. I didn’t have to do it alone anymore. Besides, I had a niggling feeling the feral alpha and mysterious twins were going to provide some missing links.

And I knew now just how far I would go to protect my home, my pack and my family. I would put everything on the line to give them a future and to make the world safer. Nothing less would do.

I rested my head on Sam’s chest and he started up a light purr that sent bliss zinging through me. My body melted into him as I enjoyed it for a moment more before I pushed away gently. I suddenly knew what my next move had to be right now. It was more mischief than mayhem, though.

“Actually, if you guys can give me a moment. There’s something I need to take care of alone.” I stepped away from the comfort of their arms and Sam looked concerned.

“Just give me five minutes,” I said, trying to put a somber expression on my face.

“Why am I concerned right now?” Dio asked.

“Because she’s up to something, as usual,” Pala said, with a carefree smile.

I got a few steps away when Dave muttered, “Oh, no you don’t, you little vixen.”

“What?” Dio asked, sounding perplexed.

“She’s trying to steal the chicory,” Dave yelled.

I could feel my face break out in a grin as I whirled and took off, yelling over my shoulder, “Bear, get ’em.”

I could hear barking, cursing and pounding feet as I took off on the closest path, loving the feeling of being chased.

Nobody said we couldn’t have a little fun along the way.

Life was damn good for an apocalypse.
