I had underestimated my warlord though, as he rolled himself and the soldier against the legs of another, taking that one down too and sending another staccato of fire into the ceiling.

The gunfire would draw more soldiers; we had to be quick.

I took a chance because Van Horn and the woman, the only ones left standing, were distracted, and I popped out from behind the crate. Hating what I was doing, I fired right at them, bringing them down.

Then I sprinted to where one of the other soldiers tried to get to his feet and kicked him hard in the head. My booted foot connected loudly with his jaw, and it turned his lights off for a while. Then I slammed the butt of my gun in the one still grappling with Kendryx, knocking him out too before helping Kendryx to his feet.

"Are you alright?" he demanded while I fumbled with his handcuffs. I found a key in Van Horn's pocket as he glared at me, but he was too wounded to do much about it.

"I'm fine. Can you pull them outside the building? Put them behind the wall of their headquarters," I pressed out, ignoring guilt over having injured men and a woman whom I had fought side by side with not too long ago. "I'll get everything we need in the meantime."

Kendryx grabbed Van Horn's arms first and pulled the heavy man out of the storage building without questioning me.

"Be careful, others may come if they heard the gunfire," I advised.

Kendryx grunted his acknowledgment, and I busied myself searching the crates for the explosives I needed to blast the generators to smithereens.

By the time I had what I needed and filled my pockets with spare magazines, Kendryx had pulled the last injured soldier to where they would be shielded from the explosion I was about to set off.

I shouldered two machine guns and Kendryx helped me move another box we would need for the next stage of our plan. All the while, I kept my eyes and ears peeled for more soldiers.

For easy roof access, a ladder had been built into the wall where the generators for the solar power stood. I gave the generators a quick contemplative glance. Taking them out would probably do the trick, but there was a slight chance they could be repaired or replaced. No, if I wanted to do this, I needed to do it right and take the solar panels out as well. Those could not be replaced.

"Take this up to the roof." I emptied half the box of explosives and handed them to Kendryx.

"What are you doing?" he asked mistrustfully. It probably went against every grain of his alpha personality to have me take the lead on this.

"I'm going to start some fireworks. Keep your head down."

Inscrutable eyes regarded me with a storm of emotions reflected in them before he pulled me against his hard chest. "Don't do anything stupid, kallini."

"Wouldn't dream of it," I quipped and gave him what I hoped was a reassuring smile.

His biceps bulged when he grabbed the first rung on the ladder, but then his tight ass distracted me as he began to climb.

"Enjoy the view," he called down confidently.

"You know it," I mumbled before tearing my eyes away.

I leaned against the wall by the corner and raised the M8 up to my chest and aimed it at the box of explosives I had left by the entrance. It was an easy shot, a shot anybody could make, and I only hesitated for a moment, well aware that it would turn the tide of the war and that I would now really be a traitor to the humans in their eyes.

Fuck it, I thought. They already believed me to be one, might as well make it official and try to save as many lives as possible.

I pulled the trigger and nearly instantly, all hell broke loose as the explosion grew like a domino effect, taking all the other ammunition, weapons, missiles, shells, and explosives with it. The sound of the multitude of detonations was earth shattering. Even the ground underneath me shook, and a shockwave pressed me against the wall; the air so hot, I feared it would singe my eyebrows off.

I hoped that, by being on top of the roof, Kendryx was spared from the shockwave as a multitude of bullets zinged and exploded inside the now burning building. I realized that this would bring more soldiers in and hid the last box of explosives behind the generators before I hauled ass up the ladder to join Kendryx on top of the roof.

"That was one big bang," Kendryx observed when he reached his hand out to pull me the rest of the way up.

Strangely, I didn't feel the slightest bit irritated at him pulling me up instead of me climbing up the last rungs. It was the opposite. I reveled in the nearness of my alien hunk, who could make me feel sexy, capable, and strong even while he lent a hand I didn't need.

"What do you need me to do?" He handed me the explosives.

They were small, brown, innocent looking boxes, not much bigger than the size of my hand, but they would do enough damage to make the solar panels unsalvageable.

"Tie them together like this." From a spool, I rolled the detonation cord and wrapped it around the first box, giving it a two-foot space before tying the next one to it.

Kendryx's eyes absorbed what I was doing, and soon he was copying me with another spool. I heard shouting from down below, and we laid down flat to the ground of the roof.
