I need to put a stop to that line of thinking. We might be newly together, but she’s mine. She’s my family now, and I’m hers. We’ll be spending this Christmas and every Christmas in the future together.

“That’s where you’re wrong, babygirl. You’re mine, and that makes you family.”

“But…”

I cup her face in both hands, ensuring she looks at me. I want her to see how sincere I am and to really hear what I’m saying. “Babygirl, there are no buts. Are you mine?”

“Yes,” she answers immediately.

“Am I yours?”

Her eyes light up, and she gives me a sweet smile. “I want you to be.”

“I’m all yours, babygirl. And that makes us family. Do you have other plans for Christmas that you’re obligated to attend?” I ask though I’m already sure the answer is no.

“No,” she says quietly, almost as if she’s ashamed.

“Then you’ll come to my mom’s house and celebrate with us. She won’t take no for an answer, nor will I.”

“I’ve never had a real Christmas before,” she says wistfully.

My heart breaks for her. I’ll make this the best damn Christmas ever. I usually don’t decorate my house since I spend Christmas at my mom’s place, but I think it’s time to change that. Winter deserves a tree with all the lights and ornaments. Christmas music and hot chocolate by the fire. Presents in the morning and a feast fit for royalty.

“We’re going to change that this year.”

“Are you sure your mom won’t mind me crashing your celebration?”

I wrap my arms around her and pull her in for a hug. “She’d be upset if you didn’t.”

“Okay, if you’re sure.”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way, babygirl.”

I seal my words with a kiss that quickly turns heated. Her lips part with a gasp, and my tongue delves inside to dance with hers. Before I can completely lose myself in her, I break the kiss. I need to feed my girl, and then we need to go get a Christmas tree.

“I made dinner. Let’s eat, then we’ll go shopping.”

She groans. “More shopping? Do we have to?”

I laugh at her extreme dislike for shopping. “You’ll like this, I promise.”

“No more mall. Please, I beg you.”

“I promise. No mall.”

“Thank God,” she says with a giggle.

We eat our dinner, then we both get dressed. I run out to the truck to get the bags from our trip to the mall and pull out the purple wool coat that I saw Winter admiring until she saw the price tag. I had Sasha bag it up before she could see it, wanting it to be a surprise. From the look on Winter’s face, I would say she’s surprised.

“What did you do?!”

“You needed a new coat, and you liked this one but thought it was too expensive even though it wasn’t.”

“I already have a coat.”

“Babygirl, that coat isn’t warm enough for winter. I would be a terrible boyfriend and Daddy if I didn’t get one that will keep you nice and toasty.”

“You really want to be my boyfriend… and Daddy?” she asks shyly.
