“Haven’t you been paying attention, babygirl? You’re mine, completely and totally. You’re mine to take care of… mine to protect and love.”

“Love?” she asks with something akin to awe.

“Yes, love. I know it’s fast, and the last thing I want to do is scare you, but I can see myself falling in love with you.”

What I don’t say is that I’m already head over heels for her. I’ll save that for another time. I don’t want to overwhelm her, and I get the impression she’s already feeling a bit overwhelmed.

“Would you think less of me if I said I’m terrified of love?”

“No, not at all. Is there something I can do to make you less terrified?”

She sighs and walks over to the couch, plopping down with slumped shoulders. Her happy smile is gone, leaving a look of deep sadness in its place.

“Don’t ever leave me?” she says with a self-deprecating laugh.

I kneel down in front of her, taking her hands in mine.

“Babygirl, when I say forever, I mean it. The only way you’re getting rid of me is if you send me away. Even then, I’m going to fight for you.”

“No one has ever fought for me before. Not even my parents.”

“They were fools. You’re worth fighting for, and I’ll never stop. You’ve got me now, and I’m never going anywhere without you by my side.”

A big smile spreads on her face, and she throws her arms around me, making me lose my balance and sending us tumbling to the floor with her on top of me. She presses sweet little kisses to my lips, but I want more. I thread my fingers through her hair, holding her to me so I can deepen the kiss. She lets out a soft moan that has my cock hardening. If I don’t put a stop to this now, I’m going to strip her down and spend the rest of the day worshiping her. As much as I want that, I want to give her the full Christmas experience more.

I break the kiss, leaving us both breathing heavily. I help her to her feet and into her new coat. She rubs the soft fabric with a happy smile on her face. She’s beautiful. I can hardly believe she’s mine. I’m one lucky bastard, that’s for sure.

“Ready?”

“As long as you’re sure we aren’t going to the mall. I’ve had enough of that place for a lifetime.”

“We aren’t going to the mall. Next time you need clothes, we will get a personal shopper. No more mall for my babygirl.”

She giggles. “Or I could shop online.”

“Or that.”

I turn on Christmas music as I drive us to the tree farm. Winter hums along to the music, making me smile. Her eyes light up when she sees the signs for Holly Hills Christmas Tree Farm.

“Are we getting a Christmas tree?” she asks excitedly.

“Yep. And they have a great gift shop with everything you could possibly need to decorate one, too.”

“This is so exciting! I’ve never had a Christmas tree before.”

My heart hurts for the little girl she used to be who never experienced the simple joys of Christmas. I’m even more determined to make sure she has the best holiday possible. Winter is so excited she throws herself into my arms when I open her door. She drags me towards the entrance, and I happily follow her. She looks at a dozen trees before finally picking what she declares is the perfect tree.

The teenage kid who’s been following us around with a saw, obviously bored out of his mind, gets to work sawing down our tree. Within minutes, he’s dragging the tree towards the shaker and baler to prepare it for travel. I tell him which truck is mine, then turn Winter towards the gift shop.

“This place is amazing!” she says, skipping ahead happily.

“I’m glad you’re having fun, babygirl. Wait until you see the gift shop.”

Watching her eyes light up as she takes in the store makes me happier than I’ve been in a long time. The whole shop looks like Christmas exploded. The ornaments aren’t displayed like in a typical store. They are hung from multiple Christmas trees throughout the space. In a separate room, there are boxes of lights and shelves full of every other decoration you could ever want. I barely have a chance to grab a basket before Winter drags me further inside.

“This place is incredible. I don’t even know where to start,” she says.

“Why don’t we look at everything first, and then you can decide what you want for our tree?”
