That caught my attention, and I turned to face him with the coffee filter in my hand. “I’m intrigued, though I feel like I should be worried about what you’re about to say.”

Bruno waved a hand at me as he rummaged through my fridge.

“There’s no more lasagna in there, if that’s what you’re looking for. Miti only gave me enough for one meal.”

“Schucks! I thought you might be luckier than me and got a bigger portion.”

“I think those are reserved for Luc and Dad.”

Bruno scoffed but didn’t say anything more, although his stomach rumbled.

“I’ll make you some eggs and toast,” I offered.

“Thanks,” he said, swinging his legs around the back of the sofa and landing on the cushions in one swift move.

“So, you going to tell me what your plan is? Or were you holding out until I said I’d make breakfast for you?”

“No, not holding out, but breakfast is a plus. I should come over this early more often.”

I shot him a glare, to which he responded with a laugh. “Don’t worry, I wouldn’t want to see your face every single morning before I had my coffee.”

I rolled my eyes and put a bit more salt into the eggs, knowing full well Bruno didn’t like too much salt in his food. That’s what he got for getting me up at the break of dawn and then having me cook breakfast for him.

“I called the art gallery last night and left a message. The curator, Lillian, wakes up super early, because this morning my phone rang, and it took me a full minute before I realized it was ringing. I was having the best dream. Did you know that my mate might be a shifter? I saw her in my dream. Running beside me, chasing the—”

“Bruno!”

“What?”

I should be happy that Bruno was dreaming about his mate, but boy, he could get off topic quickly. “You called the art gallery?” I prompted.

“Yeah. I know we all decided you would take care of the painting for Luc, but I wanted to hear who this girl was that had bowled you over.”

“No one bowled me over.”

“You have no meals in your fridge—our brother who always has everything planned,” he pointed out with a smirk.

“I—” Why did I have no meals in my fridge? I thought back to yesterday when I’d met Millie for the first time. My intention was to stop by the grocery store on the way home so I could get some ingredients to make some meals. I slapped my forehead. I had driven right past the store on my way home, skipping dinner altogether last night!

“She told me about the painting you wanted to buy for yourself but that it had already been bought, but she wouldn’t tell me to whom. Said it was a private buyer.”

I scrubbed my face, bewildered at my actions but trying to focus on what Bruno was telling me. “Yeah, it’s the perfect painting. I’m going to commission two more of the same for Luc and Brandon. I believe they might actually like it.”

“Well, I want a look at this painting that has you captivated. What if I went in and met with Millie to see if I can get a name as to who bought it?”

I eyed him skeptically. “You just want to see who Millie is.”

“Am I that obvious?” he asked with a smile.

I just rolled my eyes. It wouldn’t be a terrible idea to have Bruno go in. I’d at least get a second opinion on the painting to make sure it was the right style for Luc and Brandon. That last painting had spoken to me, but I could tell she was attached to it too. The creature in the cave was definitely a wolf. The scenery spoke to me in ways no one else would understand, and it carried a sense of hope. The wolf wasn’t menacing, either, and I liked that.

“Okay, if you think you can do a better job than me, go right ahead.”

He gave me a thumbs-up. “Deal. You make me eggs on toast, and I’ll do just that.”

Millie

Lira had come backthis morning, waking me up from a dead sleep by bouncing onto my bed and proclaiming her entrance. She, of course, then decided it was the best time to tell me all the details of her impromptu trip. I had suffered through it, learning long ago that I couldn’t stop her, as pouty Lira was worse than exuberant Lira.
