“Hand over the copies of the evidence you obtained from Raj against Aksh Walia, and we’ll let you go.”

Evidence against Aksh? How did they know I had it? Yes, when I met Raj at the café with Vishnu the other day, he told me that he had made a copy of the evidence against Tripathi and Aksh bhai when I handed him Rima’s phone that night in Dalhousie. He did that so he could blackmail one of them, Aksh or Tripathi, in future for more money using those evidence. But after learning about it, I and Vishnu threatened him with consequences and told him to give it to me. However, I had no idea it would lead me to this situation.

I don’t think my brother Aksh would stoop so low as to hire goons and kidnap me for some proof, even if it was to protect his political career. Somehow, I still trust him that he wouldn’t go to such extreme lengths to hurt me. Leaking my private pictures with Ayaan to the media is one thing, but kidnapping me for evidence against him seems far-fetched and out of character for him.

“Who do you work for?” I ask in anger. “Who paid you to abduct me?”

The man laughs aloud, his laughter reverberating around me as I continue to free myself without his knowledge. The next second, he leans over my chair, giving me a threatening look.

“You do not get to ask the questions. Keep your mouth zipped and reply only when asked.”

I swallow nervously. He smells terrible as if he hasn’t showered for days. His eyes wander on my face creepily before he grins again.

“I’m asking you again. Where is the evidence you got from Raj?”

He looks desperate to have it.

“I burned those proofs,” I retort.

He looks at me as if he doesn’t believe me. So, I continue to convince him.

“I really did. Do you think I would have let those in the hands of the media or anyone else? Of course not. Aksh is my brother, my family, and I love my family too much to ever think of going against them. So, to safeguard my family, I burned those proofs.”

In the blink of a second, he grabs my neck. With my hands still tied, I cannot even stop him or push him away. I gasp for breath as I feel suffocated, tears streaming down my cheeks.

“Only a fool would buy this pathetic tale of yours. You are wasting our time, princess. Tell us the truth or face the consequences.”

He leaves my neck with a jerk, and I cough hard, trying to catch my breath. The other men surrounding us laugh at my state as I keep coughing and struggling to breathe.

“Yes, you are…” I finally snap at him, mustering up the courage despite the fear. “You are a fool to kidnap the Deputy CM’s daughter without considering the consequences.”

I cough, trying to regain my composure before continuing.

“At this very moment, my family and the entire city’s police force will be searching for me. They will be here any minute now.”

I had hoped to scare him with my words, but instead, he burst into laughter as if I had said something funny.

“I assure you, princess, nothing of that sort is happening,” he sneers, moving closer to my face. “Thanks to you, your family may not even know that you’re missing. By bypassing your security measures and coming to Marine Drive alone, you’ve inadvertently made our job easier. It’s likely that neither your family, the guards, nor the city’s police are aware of your absence. As far as they are concerned, you could be quietly sleeping in your bedroom. And by the time they realise you’re missing, we will have already gathered enough information using our persuasive methods.”

His finger grazes my cheek, leaving me with a sickening feeling.

“It’s going to be delightful torturing you, princess,” he adds, leaning even closer as if about to kiss my cheek.

The word ‘torture’sends a chill down my spine, filling my mind with terrifying images of what these men are capable of doing to extract information. I cringe in horror and exercise all my strength to break free from the restraints that bind me. I lean away, desperately trying to escape his touch, but he continues to move closer. I’m on the verge of losing hope, cursing my impulsive decision to defy my security last night, which ultimately gave these men an opportunity to abduct me. Now, with my captor so near, my options to escape are rapidly diminishing.

Suddenly, a stone comes hurtling through the air, striking my captor’s head and causing him to cry out in pain as he stumbles backwards. I sense his presence before I even see him. It’s Ayaan. I feel a sense of relief, knowing he has come to rescue me. The men around us become alert and start searching for the one responsible for the assault.

“Who did this?” the captor shouts, scanning the surroundings with a menacing look. He turns his gaze back to me, anger evident in his eyes. “It looks like someone is here to save you, princess?”

A grin spreads across my face.

“First and foremost, I’m not a Princess. I am the Queen.” With those words and newfound courage, I deliver a swift kick between his legs.

The captor collapses to the ground, screaming in agony, giving me the opportunity to remove the shackles that bind my hands and free myself. I stand up, glaring at him, relishing this role reversal of power, and lean down to make sure he hears my next set of words in a crystal clear manner.

“And when the Queen is captured,” I clench my jaw, “the King is bound to come to her rescue.”

His expression turns to one of horror as though he knows exactly who I’m talking about. The whole nation knows about the affair brewing between Ayaan and me since the scandal in the media. The other men in the room quickly catch on to what’s happening and hurry towards me, and their eyes widen as they see Ayaan standing tall, positioned between them and me. Clad in rugged blue jeans and a black t-shirt, Ayaan exudes a furious and intimidating aura, like a man on a mission to rescue his woman.
