Seb

Missy wiggles around in the seat and hums. I reach out and tuck her hair behind her ear because I can. She turns towards me, smiling. When she’s happy, her eyes get greener. I want to make sure they stay as green as I can get them.

“Are we going somewhere that’s old?”

I bop her on the nose, amused by her incessant questions about where we’re going. We’ve seen touches of this childish side of her, but as she’s relaxed, its comes out more and more. Curiosity and a joyful appreciation for all things new.

“Not telling.”

She pouts and then curls into Darion. He puts his phone away and drops an arm over her shoulder. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Darion so content, so peaceful as he’s been in the last few weeks.

He tilts her head back and peers down at her. “It’s a surprise. And Seb is really good at not telling. So give up.”

She licks her lips, and he can’t resist, hell, I almost can’t resist. Lukas takes the corner fast. I check our location and smile.

Almost there. I spent days researching to find these perfect places. I hope she loves it. Nerves buzz through my blood. I clear my throat and watch out the window.

Lukas pulls the car into the carpark and stops. Missy leans forward, and her eyes widen. She’s frozen for a moment while she takes it in.

“Is that a?”

“A carnival.” I confirm.

She swallows hard. “I’ve seen them on TV.”

“We haven’t been to one, either.” I say to her. “Everything we do today, we’re doing new and fresh. Experiences for us all to learn together.”

Lukas jumps out of the car, hollering. Darion chuckles and opens his door, grabbing Missy’s wrist and dragging her out. I get out and pause in the sunshine. The first scent I catch is sugar, and then popcorn and something I can’t place. It’s exactly what Missy described Lukas’ scent as.

Lukas bumps my shoulder. “Good call. She loves it.”

I turn to Missy and see her enraptured expression, and my chest tightens. Carnival lights bounce off her skin, and the wind picks up her hair. I can hear the sounds of children laughing and the chimes and bells of sideshows.

She turns and launches herself at me, holding on and hugging me tight. “This is amazing.”

“We’re still in the carpark,” I protest.

She shakes her head. “I don’t care. It’s perfect.”

We spend hours in the carnival, following her around, but it’s when we’re on the Ferris wheel that I see her expression really light up. Her eyes drink in the sights, and I see the world of lights and sounds reflected there. She spreads her arms as the frigid evening air wafts passed us as if she’s going to take off, right into the dusk sky.

“You really love it, don’t you?” I ask in amusement.

“Yeah,” She looks self-conscious for a moment and then laughs and shrugs. She grips the rails and leans over, searching until she spots Lukas and Darion. She waves. “I love being up here.”

Missy kisses me, her hands run through my hair, combing it back. She tastes like fairy floss. I run my hand over her back and pull her close, inhaling that scent I love so much. She snuggles close while still watching the world from above.

“Ready to see the next surprise?”

Her eyes open, and she smiles. “I don’t think you can beat this but okay.”

She stands in the revolving restaurant staring out their huge viewing windows as the waiters bring our food. I lean against the wall with my hands in my pockets. There’s a deep satisfaction in knowing that I’ve made my pack members happy, but seeing an omega happy is a whole new experience. She almost vibrates with her joy.

Darion and Lukas are transfixed by her. I am, too. She’s wearing a gown of black lace that clings to the curves of her body. Her hair is hanging loose to the middle of her back. I make a note to thank Scarlet for helping with the clothes. But now, all I can think about is taking it off her.

“She doesn’t need makeup or jewels. She’s perfect.” I close my hand into a fist in my black slacks.

Darion moves to stand beside her, talking to her quietly. She turns to him, twin flags of red on her cheeks, her eyes glittering. He leans down and whispers something else that makes her mouth part and her eyes glaze. Lukas leans into me, turning his face into my shoulder. I stroke his thigh.
