Darion and I groan.

Lukas rushes back into the house and reappears a minute later with four small boxes.

“What are those?” Darion asks.

Lukas hands me, Darion, and Missy one.

“This is because we’re a pack now, and we need something to, like, I dunno, mark it. I need something to mark it,” Lukas insists firmly.

I open the box and stare at a silver necklace. It’s shaped like an arrow, except the arrow hangs down towards our…hearts. The arrow points to our hearts. I look up at Lukas, my throat tight as I rake my eyes possessively over him. So, he’s got romance in him, too, huh? I can work with that.

“We all have one to symbolise our promises to each other.” Missy says quietly. “We might not have bonds yet, but we have words, actions, intentions, and emotions. That makes us pack.”

“And also, I made them, so we have a weapon if we need one.” Lukas shrugs. “Safety first.”

I lift my necklace out and put it on. Lukas, Darion, and Missy do the same.

My throat is so tight that I can barely swallow. Missy stands up on her tiptoes and presses her mouth to mine.

“This was the most perfect day. You are the perfect alpha,” she whispers, and I feel a little piece of me that was worried and uncertain relax.

“It was a good day, and I look forward to doing it again.” I agree.

“Only one thing would make it better.” Lukas purrs, and then he tugs at Missy’s dress. I find myself standing with a naked omega in my arms. She hisses and clutches at me.

“Oh, warning next time, Lukas, it’s freezing.”

“Come here, and I’ll keep you warm.” Lukas says in his most cheesy voice.

Missy and I groan, but I lift her up and carry her the short distance.

Darion is already laying on the bed, stroking his cock in a way that makes me want to see our omega ride him.

“Come to bed, lovers,” He says darkly. “Let’s play a game.”

Lukas tugs Missy towards the bed, she falls on Darion, laughing, and I follow, helpless to do anything else.

One perfect day before we go to war, and then we can have forever.

twenty-eight

Lukas

We are in agreement.

Of course, she’s not going.

Over our dead bodies is she going.

The argument is the first between the four of us and ends with her sitting silently, glaring at a wall, blinking rapidly. It ended, and we’ve all decided she’s not going. I don’t care how glassy her eyes look.

I really have to fight the urge to walk over to her and fix this divide. To cuddle up to her and get her to just look at me. To soothe her. But I know that I’m right.

I glance at Darion and Seb. Darion looks defeated and exhausted, and I wonder exactly how many hours he’s working a day. Too many, I’ll add that to my to do list, help Darion more. With one week to the Gala, he needs to relax, get some sleep.

Seb, on the other hand, is clearly on the fence. I can see him weighing the decision and coming out at Z. Not cool. Because I don’t want her there. I don’t want her on the same continent as this shit, but that can’t be helped. But her in the same room with these people, when we don’t even know exactly who they are? Fuck no.

A thousand million times, no.
