“Security?” I grind out. My hand grips the seat, and I swear I’m about to tear the leather.

“Doesn’t put bread on the table.”

“Jobs!”

“At this point in time, I’m the only capable legal adult. And the universe fucked me when I presented as an omega. I’d get a job, be there until my heat hit, and be promptly knotted, mated, and fucked up before I could blink.”

I swear viciously. “A pack!”

She smiles. I don’t even need to see her face. I just know she’s smiling. “Who would take on an omega with nothing to her name that looks like I do and behaves like I do, who also comes with a family of betas she needs to care for? And not just hurl the family away and use her as a broodmare?” She turns and stares at me. “Other. Than. You.”

I lean my head back against the headrest and close my eyes. Lukas stops the car and climbs out. I don’t say anything until he returns ten minutes later.

Lukas slams a bag into her lap and climbs up to sit on the roof of the car, but he gives himself away by leaving the door open.

Missy opens the bag and groans in delight at the food. I shift uncomfortably as my cock jerks against my jeans.

“So, you want a fake pack? Just to show off, walk around. Do you expect us to court you?”

She chews and glances in the back, her eyes meeting Darion’s. He’s burying the damage, pushing that broken boy away, the merciless man I know coming back online.

“I don’t expect you to court me. I guess we just hang out and tell people. Would that be enough?”

Darion exchanges an incredulous look with me. “Listen, Missy-“

I watch as she folds three quarters of her burger back in the wrapper and puts it back in the bag. Is that all she’s going to eat?

“What are you-” I cut myself off. No, I’m not going to care. She’s blackmailing us into this situation. I refuse to care. Why the hell isn’t she eating her food? I feel an almost soul deep urge to feed her. It hurts to ignore it. Hurts.

“So, what’s it going to be? Are we a pack or what?”

Darion snarls. The sound is so rare and rage-filled that I do a double take.

“Yes.” He drags the word out, almost hissing the sound. “Yes, omega, you have your pack.”

She cocks her head and climbs over the handbrake and out of the car.

“Lukas?”

“Mm, sure. Why not? I was bored anyway. You are, so far, providing entertainment worthy of exploring.”

I scoff and step out of the car. I stalk around and take Missy’s arm in my hand. Her skin is so soft, and the moment I touch her, she turns in my direction.

“Are you sure you want this?” My words are desperate. “Please, think about this. There has to be another option.”

She hesitates and then nods. “It’s the best solution for all four of us.”

“No sex. No pack bonds. No biting.” I list off, not missing the flinch or the way her cheeks turn this adorable pink colour.

She nods, agreeing. “No promises. No feelings. No commitment for the future. A time-line, a dead-line. And we all walk away. No harm, no foul.”

I stare into her eyes that look more green than gold right now. A strand of ginger hair glitters like fire as it blows across her face. She scrapes it behind her ear and holds my gaze.

“Tell me something,” I murmur. “Are you afraid of anything?”

She smiles wryly, with a whole heap of self-loathing. “Sebastian, I’m afraid of everything. I just don’t let fear stop me.”

I lean in until she has to arch her head right back to see me. “You have yourself a pack, Missy Clark, and may the gods save you.”
