“Congratulations.” He says and salutes me with his coffee mug. He puts it aside and grabs two beers, sliding one to me.

I grin, but it’s filled with the same tiredness that’s on his face. “To you, too. Where’s Lukas?”

“He said he needed an hour with his girl.”

I wrinkle my nose. Him and that car of his. I’m relieved he’s with his car and not the omega. I kept him extra busy to keep him from going to her. Lukas seems to struggle to remember this is an on paper relationship.

I take the beer that Seb passes me and sit down on the couch, putting my feet up on the coffee table.

“That was a hard one. Damn omega was stubborn. She really did not want to go to her brother, did she?” Seb groans.

“But it makes our company official in their eyes. One word from Silas and his Pack, and we’ll be employed by all the rich and famous packs.” I say with a grin. “Which will open the doors to our revenge.”

“It’s only taken ten years.” Seb says softly. “That’s a long time.”

“I know, but think of the lives we’ll save.”

“I do. God knows I do. I just think about the ones we couldn’t, too.” Seb leans his head back and closes his eyes. “Good things to those who wait and all that.” Seb groans and kicks off his boots. “Fuck, that was a long week.”

He slouches close enough that our arms brush. I let my head fall onto his shoulder and laugh.

“Dude, we fucking did it. Pack Treyfield loves us now. Richest alphas in the whole city, and we pulled off a seamless, perfect event.”

He clinks our beers together. “Living our best life.”

“Next stop, conquer the city. We have the Gala invitation. I’m just waiting to see if we get an official invite to be employed. If we get it…we’ve made it. Nelson Fields and his entire corrupt company will be destroyed.”

Seb reaches over and covers my hand with his. “We’ll get it.”

“I hope so. I need this. I need it over.” I growl. And a flash of Missy sleeping in my arms while I purr goes through my head.

He chuckles. “Where did you go tonight? I expected you hours ago?”

“I went to see Trin. I wanted to tell her we’re close now. So close.”

“Ah, how’d she take it?” Seb’s voice is filled with caution.

“I didn’t tell her. I couldn’t.” My shoulders curl as I think about that strange mix of instincts and emotions that sealed my lips on the news I wanted to share.

“She’ll heal.”

“Maybe. Maybe not.” I start to look towards the bedroom and stop, frustrated with myself. “That’s not why I couldn’t tell her,” I admit. One of those reasons is sleeping in a room that was never meant to have someone in it.

Seb follows my gaze. His face stiffens, and he inhales and exhales deeply.

“We gotta deal with that now,” Seb says evenly. “We can’t wait any longer.”

“Yeah, I know it. I can smell it.” I say with a grimace.

I hear a gasp and look up to find Missy in the hallway. I don’t know how much she heard, but judging from the red in her cheeks, it’s enough.

“Hey, Missy, come join us.” I say with a forced smile.

“Pass.” she says flatly and stalks past us. We watch in brittle silence as she climbs the stairs and goes out onto the roof.

I groan as soon as the door shuts. “How much did she hear?”

Seb shakes his head. “I don’t know, but, fuck, that was dumb.”
