“Word of advice,” he says, stopping me. “Keep out of their business. You think Santonio was bad, you have no clue what you’ve just awoken, boy.”

Letting out a breath, I eye him as my tongue darts out wetting my lips.

“Bass?” I ask.

He tips his head to a door. “Sebastian will be detained a little longer. Run along, Mr. West,” he says, opening another door and slipping into the room dismissing me.

“What did you do, Bass?” I murmur before walking down the hall.

By the time I get back to Nova’s it's dark and not expecting anyone to be up, I let myself in quietly.

I draw in a breath when I enter the living room seeing them all waiting, except Nova is fast asleep between Cass and Jordy who are eyeing me cautiously.

Jordy looks past me. “Where’s Bass?”

Swallowing, I lift my hand brushing it through my hair. “He’s still there.” I take a seat on the other side, eyeing Nova curled up between them, her head rests on Cass’ chest while her legs lay across Jordy.

Cass runs his hand across his jaw, swallowing hard. “Did he?” he asks, needing the answer I don’t fucking have.

Shaking my head, I stare down at my hands. “I-I don't know, I don't think so, but I’m beginning to realize I don't know Bass like I thought I did.”

Jordy sighs, placing his head back on the couch, and running his hand over Nova’s leg he stops resting his hand on her side.

“We have a problem?” Cass sighs, his gaze falls to the floor, then to Nova in his lap.

“What?” I question. Jordy drops his head and I can tell whatever it is I’m not going to like it.

“The man, the one we saw the other day, it wasn’t Grant like we thought.”

Folding my arms across my chest I wait, knowing there’s more.

“He knows Nova’s family, her sister,” he tells me.

“Sister? She has a sister?” My brows draw together.

“He’s her brother-in-law,”

Cass nods. “Fuck, King, this man is dangerous. As soon as he left when I asked him to give us time to talk to Nova, I googled him.” I snort almost laughing at Cass’ openness.

“He can’t be any more dangerous than us?” I say.

Jordy swallows, quickly glancing at Nova. “He’s a part of the mafia, King. The man he works for, the man his son’s work for, is the most dangerous man in America. After his father retired he took over. Nicco Demetrius isn’t just dangerous, King, he’s ruthless, nefarious, and downright vicious,” Jordy tells me.

“Who’s the other man?” I ask them.

“Jacob Kipling,” Cass murmurs.

I work my jaw to the side as I consider what they’ve told me. I’d heard of Kipling, he’s one of the best assassins in the world, rumors were he kidnapped his old boss’ daughter, kept her locked away, and then made her fall in love with him.

“Have you told Nova anything about this?” They both shake their heads.

“Good, for now keep it between us, she’s to know nothing,” I demand.

“I’m not sure how much more she can take, how much more we can all take.” Jordy breathes.

Cass nods, agreeing with him.

“I know,” I say truthfully.
