“Wait, he’s after something isn’t he?” she asks me, nodding. I lead her to the kitchen, pulling out a chair for her.

“He wants power, Nova. He wants to own this town just like Santonio did, but I'm not going to let him,” I tell her.

“Won’t he hurt you for refusing?” she asks me, the tension in the room thickens.

“Most likely,” I tell her honestly.

King draws in a breath behind me, focusing on Nova. I see the pain in her eyes, she knows I’m hiding something.

“We will go tonight, check out the unit. Cass, you and Bass stay with Nova. Jordy and I will check it out,” King says.

“Wait, why do I have to stay here?” Nova protests.

“Because it’s not safe,” King says.

Rolling her eyes, Nova sits back in her chair, I guess we’re going to see what Santonio is hiding.

“Doesthe name Demetruis mean anything to you?” Cass asks me when Nova finally gets to sleep.

“What?” I exhale deeply, shock filling me hearing his name out loud. How does Cass know that name?

“His assassin came by yesterday,” Jordy says.

Adrenaline rushes through me like lighting, every ounce of me fearing the words coming from Jordy’s mouth.

“W-why?” I stammer. My breaths leave me in pants as they all watch me.

“Claims Nova is family and that she has a sister.”

A sister. Fuck.

“You know them, don't you?” King asks me, my knuckles clench as my eyes lock on his.

“Bass?” he questions me, his palms grip my face as he stares down at me.

“The Demetrius are mafia, big deal, ruthless, feared and will stop at nothing for revenge,” I tell them. “Jacob Kipling is the most feared assassin; he's dangerous beyond anything you can imagine,” I continue.

“Is that who your parents are running from?” King turns to look at Jordy, he nods.

“So you both knew these people?” Cass snaps.

“My parents are small fish in the mafia. Once they were found out for what they were doing to kids, they were going to be taken out, but they ran before they could be found, they’ve been running ever since,” I say honestly.

“Fucking hell.” Cass grunts, sinking into the chair.

“They don’t stand for hurting women or children,” I say.

They would never hurt Nova, I know that.

“So what do they want with Nova?” I ask.

“He wants to take her home,” Cass says.

“Fuck that, no way,” I snap.

“He’s not having her, no way,” Jordy says, agreeing with me.

“He won't, we'll come to some sort of deal, but right now we still need to find out what Santonio is hiding,” King states.
