He’s staring at me with raw hunger. Flexing his fingers, he looks me up and down, then leans down, pinching a strand of my hair between his fingers.

“There, that wasn’t so hard, was it?” His tone is sarcastic.

Shaking my head slightly, he lifts an eyebrow. “No, sir,” I whisper.

“Until you behave, this stays on.” He knocks his fingers on the chain sitting by me.

I swallow the lump in my throat.

“Why am I here?” I try again. I need to know why he’s brought me here. Please just answer me.

“You're a debt that I'm owed,” he says as if those six words explain everything. Clearing it all up for me.

“A debt?” I question, knowing this has something to do with my father. I may not know what he actually does, but I know it’s bad.

He nods and lifts the chain, moving it to my other ankle, chaining me up once again. “Please,” I beg. “I’ll behave. I promise.” I hold my hands to my chest begging him even though I know he’s far bigger than me and would have no problem yanking my arm out and manhandling me like a ragdoll. He eyes me skeptically, his eyes traveling down to my lap.

I look down and notice my shorts have moved slightly letting my hot pink panties peek through.

He swallows and yanks at my arm, pulling me closer to his chest. His breath fans across my face.

“I don’t like being disobeyed, Savannah. Next time you won’t get off so easily,” he warns.

“Please, you don’t have to do this,” I plead, gripping his arm as he goes to walk away.

“I need to use the bathroom,” I say.

He looks back at me, nods toward the bucket, and says, “Have at it, princess.”

“Please,” I cry. “You don’t have to do this.”

“I do,” is all he says as he rips his arm from my hold.

I cry out as he makes his way to the door.

“Please don’t leave me here alone.” I swallow the sob that breaks free. Heavy tears fall into my lap as I try to sit up and reach for him to come back.

“Are you afraid of the dark?” He stares back at me.

I shake my head.

“Me then? You’re scared of me?”

“I’m not scared of you?” I lie

He chuckles. “You should be.” Then he’s gone again.

I sit in the dark, the only light coming from under the door, and the slither of moonlight through the small window that’s up so high I’ll never be able to look out. I hear the locks click again, and a rasping growl cracks out of my raw throat as I try to hold back the tears, the sound echoing through the tiny room I’m in. I sigh and place my head on my knees then take a deep breath as I stare up at the moon.

Daddy, what did you do?

My eyes grow heavy. I didn’t realize how exhausted I was. The room holds a coldness to it, and I feel a chill run down my spine as I hear something behind the door. It sounds like clicking, like a gun. I know that sound all too well. My father's men would clean their guns at the dining table. This man either plans to kill me at some point or has a gun for a whole different reason. I’m guessing it’s the first because why else would he have it?

I fall asleep sometime during the night. I don’t know what time it is or even what day it is. I am so exhausted I feel like all I do is sleep, the days have all blurred together.

* * *

I wake with a start when I feel something touch me. I jump up and a hand grabs my arm. Fear sets in and I swing it at him.
