He rested a hand on her face. “Thank you for this week. I needed it so badly. I need more of it in the future.”
“Same. Let’s make sure we get away together once in a while. The world will still function without us.”
“Will it, though?”
They laughed.
“It’ll have to,” he said. “Because I’m taking more time alone with my wife, no matter who has anything to say about it.”
“You won’t hear me complaining. So what’s the schedule for next week? Are we going to Fort Liberty?”
“I guess not. General Stern said she thinks it might be better if we didn’t come right now.”
“She actually said that?”
“Not to me, but to the Defense secretary. She said tensions are running high, so it might not be the best time for us to visit.”
“When did you hear about this?”
“At yesterday’s briefing.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
