He chuckled, unable to not. “Well, not like I suspect you’re thinking. But, more like sex play. Just between two people who are careful and loving with each other but trying something new.”

She rubbed her hands over her arms as if she were warding off a chill. The soft pink silky blouse she wore tucked into her slacks accented her tiny waist, but in this light, showed off her figure beautifully and he found that he needed to sit and think of hairy balls or something to keep his erection at a minimum.

“No. I’ve never experimented.” She ran a hand around the back of her neck then swiveled her head to ease tension. She softly continued, “I told you I’m not very remarkable. I’m not worldly in that way. Not like I suspect you are.”

He stood and stepped up behind her. “I’m not worldly in that way either. I’ve always wanted to experiment with a few things but never had anyone I wanted to experiment with. This week, those thoughts have been running through my mind, and I just wanted to voice that. No pressure, and if you can’t bring yourself to try it, I’m just fine, Sam.”

He massaged her shoulders to ease the tension he felt there and released a breath when he felt her relax. “I still think you’re remarkable. Please don’t think otherwise.”

She chuckled and laid her head back against his chest.

“Don’t overthink it, Sam. It is what it is, and we both have a strong attraction to each other. It doesn’t need to be more than that right now if you aren’t ready.”

She nodded and turned toward him. “While we’re ‘exploring’ this relationship or whether we have a relationship, does that mean we’re not dating other people?”

Stunned was his first reaction, but when his words finally came, they were clipped and sharp. “I’m not interested in seeing anyone else. Are you?”

“No, I’m not interested in seeing anyone, either. I just wanted to make sure. I told you … up-front and honest. I’m so green at this dating thing; I don’t know what’s what.”

He exhaled loudly and walked with her to the kitchen where they placed their glasses in the dishwasher.

“Have you already eaten or should I make you something for supper?”

He grinned. “I need to get back to work. I’ll grab something along the way. I wanted to finish up this project tonight and will probably be working late into the evening.”

“I’m sorry you felt the need to come over here when you have so much work to do.”

“Well, to be honest with you, I really wanted to see you again, anyway, and I guess I used it as an excuse to kiss you a few times.”

Wrapping her in his arms, he pulled her close, breathing in her scent and willing his heart to slow down for fear of a heart attack.

“I better get going, or I won’t be able to leave. Besides, if I don’t finish up at work, we won’t be able to go out tomorrow night.”

He leaned down and claimed her lips once again. He wanted the passion he was feeling to seep into her, to keep her company when he wasn’t there with her.

His voice cracked as he said, “I’ll see you tomorrow, Sam. Think about me.”

“Ha! Like I’ll be able to get you out of my mind!”

He chuckled as he turned toward the front door. Sam walked with him and said “Goodnight.” One light kiss later and he was out the door and climbing into his SUV.

Sam poured herself a glass of wine and walked to her bathroom, where she turned the water on in the tub. A nice hot bath while thinking about a sexy man and their date tomorrow seemed to be a great way to spend the evening. After undressing, she settled into the tub as the warm, fragrant water sloshed around her. She closed her eyes and thoughts of her date with Gray formed in her mind. She hadn’t asked where they were going and wondered if she should text him and ask so she could dress appropriately. She simply had a difficult time thinking clearly around the man.

Thursday morning started out just like every other morning. She had been so tired after her bath that she crawled right into bed and slept all through the night—first time in a long time. She reached for her phone and smiled when she saw she had texts to read.

Where would you like to go tomorrow night? Gray.

Oh crap, she’d fallen asleep and hadn’t answered him; she hadn’t even heard her phone chirp. That was at nine last night. Then another one about twenty minutes later.

You haven’t changed your mind, have you? Gray.

After their conversation, his thoughts probably raced. Poor guy. If she’d caused him to worry, she certainly hadn’t meant to. Another text at ten p.m.

Please don’t change your mind. I can’t change my past; all we can do is move forward. Give me a chance. We’ll take it slow. Gray.
