At the sight of them, Logan’s energy fizzled. His face settled into a frown and he turned to grab his camera.

The air around them seemed to deflate right along with his smile.

CHAPTER 13

Hell was a family gathering without your phone to distract you. Especially when you were the center of attention.

Though it had felt like the right decision at the time, Everly was currently regretting leaving hers in her apartment. With her first full episode ofOn the Plus Sidedropping on VuNu in less than half an hour, she’d been desperate to avoid the itch to slide into theOTPSRead-It forums and see who was doing a live reaction thread. She didn’t need to see how fans were responding to her.

But since her brother apparently felt extra guilty about forgetting the premiere special, he had organized a family viewing party for tonight. So now, instead of facing the opinions of the online masses, Everly was at the mercy of her mother.

Becca had decorated the living room with festive streamers in gold and silver, and the sofa table was packed with a charcuterie spread, platters of tiny meatball subs and pigs in a blanket, a jug of watermelon sangria (Everly’s favorite drink), and bottles of champagne and sparkling cider. Everly’s mom sat in the middle of the sectional, having tossedaside the streamers and crown that marked it as the seat of honor. She was holding court, waving a flute of champagne like a slightly inebriated symphony conductor.

Everly planted herself on the couch next to her mother and futilely attempted not to roll her eyes at her comments.

“What do they do with you besides follow you around? You’ll go shopping, right?” Mom pointed her champagne at Everly. “Hopefully for something other than black or gray.”

Good lord. She and Jazzy should conspire.

“And they’re going to help me work toward some of my art goals,” Everly added.
