“Nope. I’m taking you on a little adventure,” he declares with a mischievous smile.

“Vlad,” I groan, feeling overwhelmed by our never-ending responsibilities. “We can’t afford to take time off for a date.”

“But, my love, you are the boss,” he reminds me, his eyes sparkling with affection. “We can make time for ourselves. We have so much to do, but we also need to take care of ourselves. We need this break.”

Reluctantly, I sigh and glance down, my guilt weighing heavy on my shoulders. Deep down, I know he’s right.

“Please, baby, just one day,” he pleads, gently cupping my face in his hands. “You’ve been working tirelessly. You deserve this.”

My heart softens, realizing the truth in his words. “Okay,” I finally concede. “Let’s escape from here, even if it’s just for a little while. I need a break.”

“Of course, baby,” Vlad assures me, his voice filled with tenderness and understanding.

We quickly freshen up and put on our finest clothes. Throughout the process, my heart pounds in my chest, a mix of excitement and nervousness. This is a completely unfamiliar territory for me. Vlad is waiting for us outside in his sleek Range Rover, ready for our adventure.

“Where are we headed?” I ask, my curiosity piqued.

He grins mischievously and replies, “What fun would it be if I told you? It’s a surprise. Just wait and see.”

Playfully pouting, I lean back in the seat and watch as the world passes by, taking in the vibrant scenery. “How did I become so lucky?”

Vlad smirks, his eyes filled with affection. “I’m not sure, but I’m grateful that you did,” I smirk back, feeling a deep sense of gratitude. With everything that has happened, our lives have been chaotic, and we have had little time for just the two of us. This outing is much-needed, for both of us. “So, tell me, what’s been on your mind? You’ve seemed distant,” Vlad asks with concern.

“It’s nothing,” I try to dismiss his worries.

“Don’t lie to me. Come on, tell me what’s going on,” he insists gently. Sighing, I confess,

“There’s just so much on my plate. I have a lot of responsibilities now, and I feel like I’m failing. The men, they don’t seem to like me,”

Vlad reassures me. “The men don’t hate you. They’re just resistant to change. They’re accustomed to the old ways. Give them time, and you’ll see that things are already shifting for the better. And if not, we’ll find a solution together.”

Doubt lingers in my mind.

“What can we do if they never accept me?”

He encourages me, “The ones who matter already do. You’re doing everything you can, and more. They respect the fact that you’re in the trenches with them, not just giving orders from the sidelines.”

I nod, appreciating his perspective. “I could never ask them to do something I wouldn’t do myself,” I admit. “And that’s why they’re starting to respect you. Everything will work out, trust me. But let’s focus on today. This is our day off.”

A genuine smile spreads across my face. Vlad always knows how to lift my spirits. He has a way with words that makes me feel invincible. “You always know how to make me feel better. Thank you,” I express my gratitude.

He takes my hand and says, “It’s my duty to protect and cherish you. And I plan on doing that for the rest of our lives.”

Chapter 52

Rose

Wearriveinacharming small town nestled into the lush hills, and I am immediately captivated by its picturesque beauty. The cobblestone sidewalks under my feet add a touch of nostalgia, while the well-maintained old houses exude a timeless charm. “Oh my gosh! This place is absolutely adorable. Where are we?” I exclaim in awe.

“Welcome to Port Jefferson,” Vlad replies with a smile. “It’s a breathtaking historic town. We’ll explore it after lunch.”

We park in front of a quaint little bistro that appears to have been plucked straight out of the 1800s. Vlad opens my door with a gentlemanly gesture, and I playfully tease him. “Such a gentleman,” I remark.

“You have no idea,” he whispers seductively in my ear, nibbling on my lobe. A rush of warmth spreads through my body, and my cheeks flush with a rosy hue. He smirks, satisfied with the desired effect of his words and actions.

“Come on,” he says, leading me inside. “This place is absolutely stunning.”

We take a seat and indulge in one of the most exquisite meals I’ve had in a long time. The enchanting ambiance of the building captivates my senses as I soak in every detail. It’s the perfect choice, a thoughtful gesture from Vlad. This quiet little town, away from the hustle and bustle, is exactly what I needed.
