“Not tonight. The girls just got back from a trip away from their husbands. I figured you wouldn’t want to listen to them fucking all night long.”

A flash of heat raced through my body at his provocative words. “Umm… good point.”

“That settles it then.” His devastating grin made me want to run my fingers across his lips. “I’ll see you at the house. I’m making dinner tonight.”

“Are you going to tell me what you’re making?” I asked, forcing myself to try to act normal.

“Nope. Come and prepare to be amazed.” Liam winked and left without another word.

My stomach did flips as I watched Liam swagger down the hill.

So that was Liam.TheLiam who Blake had competed with years ago. The guy who was like a big brother to Grace. And the guy who had my insides all tangled up just from looking at him. Now I knew why he seemed so familiar.

Oh God… I was staying with him.

It was hard enough sleeping with Duke in the other room. I was up most of the night, tossing and turning, vivid images of him in my bed. Now Liam was ruining my panties with his dirty-blond locks and sexy smirk.

How though? How could I be attracted to two guys?

How could I even be attracted to one after everything I’d been through?

I took a few minutes to examine my feelings. I figured I’d need more time before I’d be so attracted to someone again. Though I didn’t think I’d ever felt like this with Jeff. Maybe when we were in high school. He was my first real boyfriend, and I thought I loved him, but he hadn’t piqued my desire in a long time.

Now I was almost dreading dinner. Not only was Liam cooking, which was so sweet, but Duke was going to be there. Sitting at the same table with those two men was going to be the hardest thing I’d ever done. It was going to take everything in me not to combust at the sight of them.

Jax licked my hand, startling me. I scratched between his ears and sat on the grass.

An hour later, I looked up to see another figure waddling through the grass in my direction. “Blake,” I shouted, earning a nicker from my companion and a bark from Jax. Grabbing my things, I ran to meet her halfway. “Oh. My. Gosh. Look at you.” I wrapped my arms around her pregnant belly as best as I could.

“Abbs, I can’t believe you made it out here. What happened? Why are you here? Why didn’t you tell us you were coming?” She looked me over from head to toe, then handed me a bottle of water and a snack bar. Blake was my big sister in every way but blood, and I loved how she looked out for me.

“That’s a conversation for another day and deserves a bottle of wine and ice cream.” Today had been great so far. I didn’t want to mar it with talk about Jeff and what he’d done. “Thanks for this.” I held up the water and snack.

She gave me another concerned look but didn’t pressure me to explain. “Oh… well then, let’s get together tomorrow. That way Grace can be there too.” Blake looked at her belly, then back to me. “Do you mind staying with Duke another night? I just ran into Liam, and he mentioned having you stay with them tonight since, you know, we’ve been away from our guys for a week.” Her lips turned down, and I could see that she was torn between being there for her husbands and being a good friend.

“Blake, it’s fine. I’ll stay with the guys another night. Don’t worry. It gives me an excuse to get to know Liam.” I waggled my eyebrows, hoping to get a laugh from her. I didn’t need her to worry about me when she needed to be calm and stress free for the baby.

“Oh my gosh. That’s right. You’re going to love him, Abbs. He’s such a good guy. I know he will take good care of you.” She smiled and squeezed my shoulders.

“He mentioned he was cooking dinner. Should I be worried?” I tilted my head and squinted.

“Don’t worry. You are in good hands. I promise. He never let me cook when I was traveling with him.”

“That’s because you can’t cook.” I bumped her shoulder with mine as we made our way out of the paddock. “Please tell me he isn’t going to make me eat snails or something weird.” I stuck my tongue out.

Blake held her stomach as she laughed. “I think you’re safe.”

LIAM

“You failed to mention how gorgeous she was before I went out there.” The front door bounced off the wall as I entered the house. I came straight home from meeting Abbey in the paddock.

“I hadn’t noticed,” Duke mumbled from where he sat on the couch, his head buried in a book. He always made fun of me for reading, but he loved a good adventure book as much as I loved my mysteries.

I’d seen pictures of Abbey from Blake and Grace. Even years ago, I had to admit she was a pretty little thing, but her looks back then were nothing compared to the beautiful woman sitting under that tree with my horse and dog. After hearing about her over the years, it felt like I’d known her forever when I actually knew nothing about her. I’d honestly just imagined her to be another version of Grace since they were the same age.

“Did you go shopping today?” Opening the fridge, I found my answer before he spoke.

“No. I was kind of busy today. I met Chase to pick up Abbey’s car.” He shrugged. If he didn’t get anything in town, then I was short on supplies to make dinner.
