Maybe she was just reckless. All she knew was that she was angry with him for locking her up like this. She thought that they had a connection, but he ruined it. That bothered her way more than the fact that he was in the Bratva.

“I’m pissed off,” she said. “I regret ever meeting you.”

“No, you don’t.” He moved closer, and a rush of desire made her skin tingle. “I’m pretty sure that you’ll be thinking about me the next time you use that pretty pink vibrator of yours.”

The accuracy of his words caused her rage to bubble over, and she acted without thinking. Pulling her hand back, she sent it flying toward his face. But Sam was too fast and too strong. Capturing her wrist before he hand made contact, he backed her up against the wall, pinning both hands over her head. The position was so similar to what he did in bed last night that she quivered with desire.

Then, his lips were on hers, dominating her in a rough kiss. She responded, pulling in a deep breath through her nose that made her chest expand. Her breasts brushed against his chest, and the contact made her pulse with need for him. The bed was right there. They could just…

No.

She yanked her hands from his hold and shoved him away. He must have been caught off-guard because he stumbled back a step, breathing heavily and staring at her with wild eyes.

“Leave me alone,” she said, hating that her body still reacted so strongly to him.

Sam didn’t argue this time. He just turned away and walked out, locking the door behind him.

Alek wasat his side as he walked into his meeting with the DA. Attorney Michael Garrett had no idea what was coming. He’d been difficult to arrange a meeting with in the first place, but Alek had powerful allies in this city, and he pulled a few strings to make this happen.

His office was located in a squat building with a brick face. The inside was modern, with glass walls for the conference room and dark hardwood floors. There were other offices lining the hallway, most of them empty and belonging to assistant district attorneys.

There was a secretary stationed outside of Garrett’s office, and she didn’t bother to hide the curiosity in her gaze as the two of them approached. Sam was sure that they weren’t the normal type of visitors that the DA received.

“Do you have an appointment?” she asked.

“Yes,” Alek said. “It’s under Alek Razin.”

She consulted a list. “You can go on in. Mr. Garrett is waiting for you.”

Garrett was a man in his mid-thirties with jet-black hair and a blue suit. He was sitting behind a massive desk with stacks of papers, staring at a computer screen. As they entered, he looked over with a frown, watching Sam close and lock the door.

“You must be Alek,” Garrett said, standing and holding out his hand. “Councilman Harris insisted that I take this meeting, but no one has told me what this meeting is about.”

Sam and Alek sat in the chairs in front of his desk, neither of them shaking his hand. Garrett’s frown deepened, and let out a sigh before sitting back down himself.

“I need you to release Alexander ‘Nix’ Helt,” Alek said. “Drop all charges and get him out of jail.”

Garrett’s eyebrows popped up in surprise. “I take it that you’re a part of the same criminal organization as Mr. Helt?”

Sam smirked. As if we’re really going to tell him that.

“I’m sorry gentlemen, but I won’t be ordered around just because you’re a part of a group of criminals that think they’re above the law.”

It was foolishly bold of him to insult them like that, especially Alek. He didn’t become the Pakhan by letting stuff like that go, but Alek said nothing, glancing at Sam instead.

“We’re not here to order you around,” Sam said, placing the manila folder he’d brought on the desk in front of him. Dmitri did good work and when Garrett flipped it open, he was staring at a picture of himself with Brandy, the young woman he’d been fucking for months. Sam had carefully placed the most incriminating picture on top. It came from a security camera on the front of a convenience store across the street from the sleazy motel where he took his mistress. Last week, it seemed that he couldn’t wait until they got inside and pressed her up against the car in the parking lot with his tongue down her throat and his hand up her shirt.

The rest of the pictures were from the motel’s security cameras, showing them coming and going on more than one occasion. For good measure, there were copies of receipts the man had signed. He was a moron that used his easily traced credit card. It was a wonder that his wife hadn’t found out yet.

All of the color drained from Garrett’s face as he looked through the folder. When he looked up again, there was clear horror on his face.

“H-how did you-”

“Tell me something, Garrett,” Sam interrupted, unable to keep a smug smile off his face. “What was the platform that you used when you ran for office?”
