“You went through my stuff?” she asked, outraged. Unzipping her bag, she saw her toiletries right on top. Toothbrush, facewash, deodorant. For some reason, that made her feel flustered. It was so intimate to know that he was in her bedroom and bathroom, going through her things. “What the hell is wrong with you?”

“Well, I’m a little hot and bothered after seeing what’s in your underwear drawer.”

She froze, staring at him in disbelief. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

He grinned. “Oh, I think you do.”

Her vibrator. She shoved the thing into her underwear drawer when she moved in and hadn’t used it since. Knowing that Sam saw the thing made her both embarrassed and incredibly turned on. Sexual tension crackled in the air between them, making heat lock low in her belly, her core clenching.

It pissed her off.

“You know, you could just let me go back to my own apartment. We could act like all of this never happened.”

Although, she was sure that she wouldn’t forget the way that his calloused fingers felt on her skin and the way that his cock filled her.

Sam took a seat on the bed, not bothering to pay attention to the mess she’d created in the room. “You know, you’re taking all of this pretty well, all things considered.”

“Really? You think so?” she asked, gesturing to the stuff she destroyed.

“It could be worse. So, what’s your story? Been kidnapped before?”

“No, but I’ve been around plenty of violent criminals.”

“What makes you think I’m violent?”

She rolled her eyes. “Spare me the innocent act. You’re obviously part of organized crime. I recognize the signs.”

“You know someone else in the Bratva?”

“No, I just moved here, remember? But back in Misso City, my brother works for the mafia.”

“Interesting,” Sam said thoughtfully.

Lexi saw an opportunity to try to get out of this. “You know, the Irish and Italian mafias have formed an alliance. They won’t be happy if they find out I’m being held against my will.”

That was more than an exaggeration. Sure, one of her best friends was married to a high-ranking member of the Irish mafia and her brother worked hard to get recognition among the Italians, but she had no reason to think that either group of people would do a damn thing to help her. Sam didn’t need to know that though.

He laughed, and it was a hollow sound. “The Bratva isn’t afraid of anyone. We are strong. Besides, no harm will come to you.”

“Really?” He’d said before that he wasn’t going to kill her, but he didn’t exactly give her any concrete answers about what hewasgoing to do.

“I just need you here until I conduct my business with the DA. Then, you’re free to go. I can’t have you going to the police with this before the charges are dropped.”

“I wouldn’t do that. Didn’t you hear what I said? I’m associated with the mafia. I’d never snitch.”

“It’s a risk I can’t take.”

It was stupid to be upset that he didn’t trust her, and she knew it. But that didn’t stop her from feeling that way.

“You’re a psycho, do you know that?” she snapped.

Sam stood from the bed to tower over her. “You’re not making this easy.”

“Oh, I’msosorry.” Sarcasm dripped from every word, and she poked him in the chest with the tip of her finger. “You’re the one that’s keeping me here against my will. Why in the hell should I make it easy on you?”

“You really are fearless, aren’t you?”

Hell no.She just wasn’t afraid of Sam for some reason that she couldn’t explain. She knew that she should fear him. If he was in the Bratva, he was likely capable of hurting people and had possibly even killed for the organization. But she wasn’t afraid of him.
