“Oh! Yes, I’m from here. Well, technically, I was born in Seattle, because my dad played for the Seahawks but he got traded to the Eagles when I was three.”

“Wait…” I blink at her. “Your father is…Theo Graham?”

“Oh, I thought you knew? Human Resources knew, I figured they’d passed that information along.”

“Wow. I am a huge fan of your dad.”

“I’ll be sure to tell him.” She smiles.

Don’t look at her mouth, Wes.

“That must have been really amazing growing up in that environment.”

She shrugs. “Cooler for my brother. I never really got into football. Going to games is always fun though.”

“I remember the game when your dad retired.”

She beams with pride. “Me too. It was a great game. Even though he destroyed his shoulder, he doesn’t regret a second of it.”

The words are on the tip of my tongue that I have box seats and I’d love to take her to a game before I realize, one, she probably also has box seats, and two, she’s interviewing to be my fucking assistant.

I think I blacked out for the rest of the interview, but I remember offering her the job on the spot and personally showing her around the rest of the day.Something I never do.

And then over the past six months, I’ve grown to be more enthralled with her. Sometimes, I’d have no reason to walk by her desk and I’d find myself trying to come up with them. Some mornings, when I didn’t have anything specific for her to do, I’d call her into my office to ask her to get me coffee just so I’d have a reason to see her and hear her voice.

“Damn, you’ve got it bad,” Christopher says as he stares at me. I drop my head into my hands and pull my glasses from my face.

“I am going fucking insane over how much I want her. Is that possible?”

“Yes, women were put on the earth to drive us crazy. You have met my ex-wife, correct?”

I snort, thinking about the very tumultuous relationship Chris has with his ex-wife. “You cheated on her…with her best friend!”

He points at me. “Two things can be true at once. Shewascrazy!”

I roll my eyes at him, not wanting to go down this road with him again. “Raegan isn’t crazy. I’m the one that’s crazy. I feel fucking unhinged. And I swear that Patterson kid needs to keep his eyes to himself.”

“Now, hecanactually be with her,” he says taking another puff of his cigar.

“You want to live to see Christmas?” I snap, not wanting to think about him touching her or asking her out.Maybe she’s into him.I ball my hands into a fist and try to remind myself of the fuck ton of paperwork there would be for punching that kid in the face.

He chuckles. “I’m going back inside. I need another drink. Take some deep breaths and come back in and don’t beeline for Raegan when you do.”

I’m outside for only a few minutes when I decide I should probably go back in, but when I turn around, I see Raegan standing at the entrance to the patio holding one of the cranberry bourbon sours. The light from the moon reflects off her silvery skirt making her shimmer.

“You were right, it’s pretty good,” she says as she moves onto the patio and stands next to me. Even with her heels, she only comes to my shoulders and I give myself exactly one second to think about how perfect she’d fit in my arms.

How perfect I’d fit between her legs.

“What are you doing out here?” I ask her, wondering why she’s not with her friends.

“Well, Marissa is on the dance floor and I didn’t really feel up to dancing.” She takes a sip of her drink and I try not to pay attention to her mouth or the red lipstick that accentuates her full lips. “And I don’t really feel comfortable around anyone without Marissa.” I frown, wondering who has made her feel uncomfortable. She must read my face because she shakes her head. “Let me rephrase that. I just meant, I’m still so new and I just haven’t gotten to know everyone yet. But everyone has been really nice.”

“Good. I would hate to have to fire anyone for not playing nice in the sandbox.”

She laughs, but I’m not kidding; anyone that is rude to her is gone.

“Well, that’s rich,” she says and I raise an eyebrow at her, willing her to go on. “Marissa said you screamed at her on her first day. That’s certainly not very nice.”
