“Geirolf and Regnor have been talking about it,” Starla starts, and I whip my head around. “They’re making bets on who can get her to fall for them first.”

“They’re making bets?” Those little fuckers.

“Mhm, they are.”

Like hell they are.

Neither of those little douchebags are going to win that bet. Especially not when I throw myself in the ring. I’ve wanted Rayna for a while, and I’m going to get her. She’s going to be mine.

“They can try if they want, but it’ll be embarrassing for them,” I say as I walk around the bar and head onto the dance floor. It’s very close to midnight, but I want to grind up against Rayna, so I do.

As I make my way through the crowd, the thumping bass of the music reverberating in my chest, I catch Rayna’s eye. Her lips curl into a mischievous smile as recognition glimmers in her sea-green eyes. There’s a magnetic pull between us, drawing me closer with every beat of the music. A pull we’ve never dared to test.

Without hesitation, I wrap my arms around Rayna’s waist and pull her body flush against mine. The heat of her touch sears through me, igniting a fire that threatens to consume us both. We move together in perfect sync, our bodies becoming one with the rhythm of the music.

Rayna grinds her ass against my crotch, and I get as close to her as possible. I don’t give a fuck who can see us. It doesn’t even phase me that she’s Dag’s sister. We’re both adults, and we can make whatever choices we want.

Rayna shifts around to face me, and her eyes bore into mine. I swallow hard. “I didn’t know you could dance so well.”

“I could say the same about you. What’s it going to take to get you to dance? Three drinks?”

“More like seven, and an incredibly hot woman on the dance floor.”

Rayna turns around, searching through the crowd of people. “Is there one here?”

“Very funny.” I roll my eyes playfully.

Before we know it, everyone is counting down from ten and the new year is almost upon us. “Three, two, one!”

As the clock strikes twelve, I seize Rayna’s soft lips with my own, engulfing her in a fiery and intense embrace. Our bodies melt together, igniting the undeniable flame between us. The taste of her sweet cherry lip gloss lingers on my tongue as our tongues dance in a frenzy of passion together. We’re lost in the moment, consumed by the heat of it. It’s a moment neither of us will ever forget. Never in my life have I kissed a woman with such heat and passion. I know what the difference is. I’ve never had a woman who I’ve wanted as badly.

I want Rayna, and I’ll make damn sure she knows it.

I pull away from her and stare deep into her eyes. “You know I want you, and I’ll do whatever I need to have you, Rayna. I’m not the kind of man who gives up easily. I know you’re trying to avoid this connection we have, so I’ll wait for as long as I have to. I’ll wait until you see how good this could be between us.”

I pull her close and press a chaste kiss to her forehead before walking through the crowd of people heading straight back to the bar. Starla has another round of drinks already prepared, so I swipe one up and take a sip.

“Wow. That was intense, but I loved it!” Starla’s basically acting like my biggest cheerleader right now.

“Yeah, so now I wait and see what happens.”

“What did you say?” Starla picks up a drink and starts sipping on it.

“I told her I wanted her, how I won’t give up easily, and that she can keep ignoring our connection—I’ll be patient.”

“Whoa. I’m gonna say two weeks. In two weeks, she’ll come around.” Starla isn’t just a good friend to me, she’s a great friend to Rayna.

I know I said I’d be patient, but I don’t want to wait two weeks. I want Rayna as soon as possible.

CHAPTERTWO

Rayna

My mother sips her chai latte as she scans me from head to toe with her eyes. “I’m waiting, you know.”

We’re at a local coffee shop fifteen minutes away from the club. The two of us don’t get the opportunity to get out too often, afraid of what Loren will do if he sees us. I, for one, am not trying to live in fear. All I want to do is be cautious.

In the back of my mind, I know he’ll make an appearance sooner or later. I know Dag and the club will do what they need to protect us, though there are days when I wonder if I’ll ever return to my normal life.
