“I’ve waited seven years to be with you, Briana. I don’t want to rush this.”

She sucked in a sharp breath. “Seven years? This whole time?”

“You heard me,” I said. “You’re fucking divine and smart as hell, but this trip? It’s just a tease of what could be. We’ll go to the airport the day after Bridgit’s wedding and reality will set back in.”

“But what if this becomes real? What if we become something more?” she asked, pushing against me.

Instead of leaning back, I clasped her closer with an iron grip. I considered her question. Did we have to end whatever this was after we left the island? Yes. It was a dangerous position for her to be in. “No, Bri. Don’t ruin this.”

“So, you’re saying you want me to let loose here, but you’ll clamp me down the moment I step out of your lines?”

She had me. “Damn, leave it to the lawyer,” I moaned, pulling her face to mine.

But she held back, pressing, “We don’t have to end this just because we leave the island, Tor.”

It was clear that my chivalry, no matter how dark and twisted it was, had melted the frigid heart of my lawyer.

Chapter 11 – Briana

Icouldn’t believeViktor had been obsessed with me for years. But while I was getting ready for dinner, I suddenly realized that I had been obsessed with him too. No matter how crazy he drove me, I liked him in charge.

And as I finished primping for the dinner ahead, I decided I was okay with this strange development birthed from the fires of our broken contract. He’d slammed down a committed relationship, but I didn’t need one. I wanted him; having him now didn’t mean having him forever. That was too fantastic to even imagine. And yes, okay, although I may have fallen asleep with those wild, impossible thoughts last night, in the light of day I realized the more attainable reality was to seize the moment and steal the pleasure within my grasp.

So, when Viktor knocked on my door moments later, I swung it open with a flourish, ready to take whatever he offered.

His gaze swept over me, predatory and dark as sin. Heat crawled up my spine like a living flame when I caught sight of him. His broad shoulders were swathed in a sharp cut suit. Coupled with his dominating presence, he was a sight to behold. A carnal need stirred deep inside me. I blew out a breath. “Damn, you clean up well.”

“You sound surprised, suits.”

I stepped close, trailing a finger down his jaw. “You’re built for fighting, Viktor, and I don’t mean boardroom squabbles.” As I spoke I lifted his knuckles, which still sported abrasions. “What really happened here?” I pressed.

He shrugged and flashed me a lupine grin. “I was busy getting us exclusivity to the park we spent the day in.”

Dropping his great paw, I gaped. “There wasn’t anyone else there?”

“You thought we could just walk through the jungle without sticking to the path and then jump off a waterfall repeatedly?” he teased, adding a bop on my nose. “You’re cute, suits.”
