All three women laughed, and my smile grew slightly.

I hadn’t had friends in so damn long.

RORY

“Being fatedwith Rok is honestly going to make this whole thing much easier for you,” Jill said. I assumed Rok was Amarok’s nickname, and was a little irked he hadn’t told me that.

Was he close with her in some way?

“Ezra has told us all how simple everything was for her and Ivaylo. It kind of makes us want to grab her by the hair and shake her,” she explained.

A laugh escaped me, and Ezra gave Jill a playful push. The contact was so light, Jill didn’t even stumble as we continued walking through the trees, but it made her grin.

“Notsimple,” Ezra corrected. “Justdifferent.”

“Different how?” I asked, my voice curious.

“There are forty-eight single werewolves right now,” Ezra said, gesturing to the forest. Amarok growled, and she corrected herself. “Forty-sevensingle werewolves.”

My gaze followed her hand, and when I did a double-take, I realized there were at least a dozen wolves in the trees around us, just following us through the forest.

“There are only four potential mates, including you. There are six of us women here, total, but I’m mated, and Amy finally bit Ax last week, sealing their bond. Because you’re fated to Rok, and the eclipse is coming up, the other guys will realistically leave you alone for the next three and a half months or so.”

Riley and Jill nodded their agreement as we kept walking.

“What do you mean, leave me alone?” I asked.

“Ezra opened her big mouth and told the guys that humans choose their mate after dating to get to know them, so we all have suitors. Many, many suitors.” Jill tossed a hand toward the forest again.

“She’s exaggerating,” Riley said. “The guys are all really sweet, they’re just all looking for someone to settle down with.”

“Pause a second,” Ezra said, stopping. Everyone else followed her lead. “Will you be more comfortable living in a small, cozy space, a wide open one, or something between the two?”

I glanced at Amarok, and he met my gaze but didn’t answer the question for me.

He wantedmeto choose.

The part of me that had yearned for freedom for so long wanted me to saywide open, but it didn’t feel honest. Smaller spaces usually made me feel the safest, truthfully.

“Cozy,” I admitted.

“Perfect.” Ezra resumed walking, and the rest of us did too.

“The guys are all looking for someone to spend eternity with,” Riley said, resuming her explanation. “Most of us didn’t come here looking for love, so they’re trying to convince us. But there’s a lot of competition for it, because of the guy to girl ratio.”

“We’re basically living in The Bachelor,” Jill clarified. “There’s always someone taking us out, trying to win our hearts. Fights break out over us if we’re not clear enough about how we feel. We have to reject the guys we’re not interested in, and let the ones we might be pursue us, or at least befriend us.”

My face warmed.

Had Amarok been rejected by any of them?

I couldn’t help but glance over at him.

“I was waiting for my fated female,”he said into my mind, his gaze steady on mine. I remembered him saying he was patrolling in the Peaks when Serae transported me in, or something along those lines, so it did check out.

“About a dozen of the guys decided they aren’t playing the Bachelor game,” Riley said. “They’re waiting for their fated mates. They’ve spread out through the entirety of the Broken Woods, set on finding the women wherever and whenever Serae appears with them. She’s a bit unpredictable.”
