Her lips brushed my ear. “You didn’t tell me you were so good at this game.”

“I don’t think you gave me the chance,” I murmured back.

“Probably true. Mind if I sit with you until the next game starts?”

In response, I grabbed her waist and tugged her closer, making her laugh as she dropped onto my lap.

“Obviously, I picked the wrong teacher,” she said playfully.

“Anyone could’ve told you that,” Valko said, dropping into the chair next to mine. “The only one who can outplay Rok, is me.”

Aurora shot him a curious look. “Have we met before?”

“You haven’t. This is Valko, the other beta. Valko, this is Rory.”

Understanding filled her eyes. “It’s nice to meet you.”

“Of course it is,” Valko winked. “Now, you’ve met the attractive brother.”

I elbowed him in the side, and he and Aurora both grinned.

“I didn’t know you were brothers,” she remarked.

“Not by blood,” I explained. “But we’ve spent so much time holding the pack together, we may as well be family.”

“Before our last alpha lost his battle with immis, the three of us were his betas,” Valko added. “If he’d let us do our damn job, we wouldn’t have lost so many wolves. We haven’t lost anyone since Ivaylo took over.”

“Knock on wood,” Ezra said, plopping down next to Valko.

Valko and I frowned.

“It’s a human saying. Like… don’t count your eggs before they hatch,” Aurora offered.

Our frowns deepened.

“They’re telling you not to get cocky,” Ivaylo said, scooping Ezra up and sitting beneath her smoothly.

“I don’t think your cocks need any help, either,” Ezra agreed, flashing her mate a wicked grin.

Aurora snorted, and the rest of us mirrored Ezra’s expression.

“Did you win at your table?” Aurora checked, looking over at Ezra.

“Nah. Ivaylo wiped me out first.” She rolled her eyes at him.

His grin widened. “You told me I wouldn’t be able to.”

“That was my way of telling you to let me win,” she shot back, though she was grinning too.

He chuckled. “Where would be the fun in that?”

A few more of the chairs filled up, and one of the other guys passed out the cards.

“I hope you’re all ready to lose,” Valko announced, as the game began.

As expected, he may as well have cleaned the floors with us.

But damn, it was a good time anyway.
