“There is something I want to ask you,” he says.

My heart stutters at the sudden intensity in his eyes and the seriousness of his voice, so all I manage is a nod.

“You haunted my dreams for six years.” A smile blows across his lips as he traces his fingers over my cheekbone. “I dreamt of your beautiful eyes. Of the emotions I saw in them. And then when I finally met you again, I knew that there was no turning back. We are, and always have been, two bodies with one soul. You are mine, Isabella. And I am yours.”

Emotions well up inside me, and I draw in an unsteady breath.

His eyes glitter in the starlight as he watches me. As he drinks in the sight of me.

My heart leaps in my chest as Rico lowers himself to one knee. Everything inside my head goes silent, so silent that I can hear the erratic pounding of my own heart, as he reaches into his black suit jacket and pulls out a small box.

A jagged breath escapes my lungs as he opens the box to reveal a breathtaking silver ring with a sapphire in the exact color of my eyes.

“I know that you don’t have a last name of your own,” he says, looking up at me. “So I would like to give you mine. If you’ll have it.”

My heart bursts and the whole world tilts on its axis. And at the center of it all is the kneeling mafia prince before me. Offering me a ring. A name. A home. And a life. Everything I have ever wanted.

“Yes,” I gasp out.

His eyes light up like the stars themselves, and he slips the ring onto my finger. Rising to his feet, he slides his hands through my hair, which is now back to its natural auburn color.

My soul flutters and my toes curl as Rico claims my lips the way he has just claimed my heart.

“Well then, Isabella Morelli,” he says when he draws back. There is a brilliant smile on his face. “Would you like some waffles to celebrate?”

The name sends a pleasant shudder coursing through my body, leaving a sparkling warmth in its wake.

Starlight glints in Rico’s eyes as he watches me.

I smile back up at him, feeling so light that I could float away to join the clouds.

Isabella Morelli.

Neither name was mine from birth. But they are the names that I have chosen for myself. The only ones that have ever felt right.

This lifeis the only one that has ever felt right.

Here. With him.

Because it’s real.

Weare real.

We have fought our past and our enemies and even our own families to have this life together. We have carved out our own happiness from a complicated world full of violence and blood. We have found our own path. Our future. Our place in this beautiful and lethal life of ours.

And now, we are going to do what both of us have been dreaming about for years.

We are going to live.
