I open my mouth wider for him. His lips lift in a half smirk as he grabs the panties in my mouth and pulls them out. I draw in a deep breath, a full breath at last, as he lets the purple lace flutter to the floor beside me.

For a few seconds, nothing else happens.

Then Rico nods down at the belt. “Put it back on me.”

Reaching up, I unwind the belt from around my neck. After repositioning it, I start sliding it back into his belt loops. The ones at the front of his pants are easy, but once I reach the back, I have to rise up onto my knees and circle his hips with my arms. In order to reach the other side, I’m forced to practically press my face against his crotch.

Rico chuckles softly.

I clench my jaw while I continue working and imagine the sound he would make if I cut off his cock. The buckle clinks faintly as I finish fastening it.

Once I’m done, I tilt my head back and meet Rico’s gaze again. “Anything else?”

“Yes.” He draws a hand along my jaw, almost lovingly. “But we’ll get to that another time.”

Before I can respond, he simply turns around and strides back into the living room. I force out a long breath to calm the storm inside me before I climb to my feet at last. Even though Rico has barely even touched me, I somehow still feel messy and rumpled. I run my hands down my white t-shirt a few times before walking into the living room as well.

Utter chaos meets me there.

A fresh wave of anger crashes over me as I sweep my gaze over the mess that these damn men have made in my apartment. Everything that could be pulled out of a drawer or cabinet or shelf has been pulled out and is now scattered across the floor. Cleaning all of this up is going to take the whole bloody weekend.

I walk into the room just in time to see Kaden shake his head at Rico, presumably telling him that he didn’t find anything either. Jace just shrugs as well.

“Find what you were looking for?” I ask.

Rico turns to me. Those intelligent eyes of his glitter with unspoken threats as he strides back to me. Wrapping a hand around my throat, he pins me to the wall. I let him.

“No.” He strokes the side of my neck with his thumb, which sends an involuntary shiver down my spine. He smiles like the fucking mafia prince he is. “But I will.”

Without another word, he abruptly takes his hand off my throat and turns around before walking out of my apartment with the two Hunter brothers on his heels. I heave a deep sigh of both relief and annoyance as the door closes behind them.

Then searing hot panic shoots through my chest. Because I suddenly realize where that look of victory came from. Realize the gigantic fucking mistake I made.

Rico had me on my knees with a belt around my neck, cutting off my air.

A normal person would have panicked.

But I hadn’t. I had remained completely calm and just stared up at him with hard eyes. And that is something only a person who has been trained to withstand advanced interrogation tactics would do.

Oh fuck.

RICO

She might not have fought back and proved that she is indeed a skilled assassin, but she sure proved that she is not as normal as she pretends to be. No regular first-year would just sit there, looking as calm as a fucking millpond, while I cut off their air like that.

Part of me had wanted to just yank hard on the belt and crush her windpipe in retribution for my parents’ murder. But she isn’t the one who killed them. Instead, shesparedmy life. So the other part of me had wanted to… what? Thank her? Shove her up against the wall and kiss those damn troublesome lips of hers?

Six years.

I have been thinking about, dreaming about, this girl for six years. And now that I finally have her, I can’t even decide what to do with her. All of my emotions are too tangled up. I hate her, but at the same time, I—

“You okay?”

Snapping out of my churning thoughts, I turn to find Jace looking at me from the corner of his eye. A hint of concern etches his brows, though he tries to hide it behind a casual expression.

I rake a hand through my hair and draw in a deep breath of temperate morning air. It tastes of mist and pine trees. To the east, the sun is just barely crawling over the horizon, smearing the sky with a splash of red.
