Her words make my heart pick up. Shaking my head, I glance in the mirror to make sure my makeup is okay, and I am ready to do this. “I am going to get married today and that’s not going to change.”

Rewa’s lips thin as she rolls her eyes. “I can never win over your stubbornness. Yet I wanted to offer you a choice which you should have been given, considering the nature of this marriage.”

I give her a light nod and shrug my shoulders, exhaling softly. “Thanks, but this is what I have chosen for myself willingly. As I said earlier, no one is forcing me. This is my decision.”

“Yes, I am aware.” Her forlorn face makes me wince.

I know Rewa worries about me. Before I can put her at ease, Mom walks into the room and lets out a gasp.

“You look so pretty, my baby.” Mom walks over to me and pulls me into her arms. “It’s such a lovely feeling to see you in your wedding dress. To tell you the truth, I still find it hard to believe my little girl will be happily married in the next few hours.”

Her words reverberate in my mind. Married — yes, but happily married? Well, I am not sure of that. That’s all it takes for my eyes to fill with tears as I pull back and nod. “Even I am not able to digest the fact that in a few hours, my life will completely change, and I will start a new journey.”

Cupping my face lovingly, she locks her eyes with mine. “I know you chose this marriage to save your father. Yet, always remember your first duty as a wife is to keep yourself happy. Never compromise on that. Because only if you are happy, you will be able to make a home that both you and your husband will enjoy living in.”

I can’t help but smile as I nod.

Dad clears his throat as the three of us turn to look at him standing at the doorway in his black three-piece suit, looking way too handsome for his age.

“Princess, is that you? I can’t recognise my beautiful girl.”

I don’t know why, but for some reason, seeing Dad makes me even more emotional. I press my lips together in an attempt to keep from crying as I blink back my tears.

Mom glares at him. “I told you not to come. You are making her cry, and if her make-up ruins, then you are in for trouble.”

With a chuckle, Dad walks up to me and kisses on my cheek. “You will always be my sweet little girl.”

I turn back to Mom, wringing myhennaclad hands. “I’m nervous.”

She gives me a considerate smile. Her black eyes study me cautiously and I notice how gorgeous she is looking in her peach saree. Her hair is left loose and her makeup is minimal, making her look every bit regal and elegant.

“It’s normal to feel anxious, Sweetheart. Always remember, you are the bravest and strongest person. There may be a time in your marriage when the going will be tough. But no matter what, don’t lose hope, because we will always have your back.”

I let out a breath as Dad speaks, “Your mom is right, Princess, you are our precious daughter, and we will always be rooting for you.” Dad engulfs me in a hug, his voice clogged with tears.

Patting my head, Mom whispers, “So never think you will ever be alone. This will always be your house, and the doors will always be open for you.”

“You make it so easy and smooth for me. I’d be… lost without having you both beside me,” I voice as my lips quiver while I close my eyes and further lean into Dad.

After holding me for a few moments, Dad takes a step back. “That will never change. You will always have our unconditional love.”

My heart is overwhelmed and I am trying to sort out all the emotions I am facing at the moment. Fear, nervousness, and doubts, all roll up into one giant knot in my stomach. Shaking my head, I push them all aside and straighten my back and shoulders. “I am ready to go.”

Dad smiles as he holds out his arm for mine. Mom kisses me on both my cheeks and turns to give Dad a loving look as we all head for the door. As we walk through the house, I can’t help but notice how tastefully it has been decorated with multi-coloured flowers, candles, and fancy lighting.

After waiting for a couple of seconds, a black Mercedes that is sent by Ranveer, arrives. Dad sits on the passenger seat in the front while Mom, Rewa, and I take the backseat. Throughout the way, they all make small talk, which helps me to relax a bit, making me forget all my worries although temporarily.

Thirty minutes later, the car pulls in front of the five-star hotel. The hotel is decorated like a palace with dreamy lights and exotic expensive flowers. A few guests have started entering. When the wedding planner, Sofia’s eyes fall on me, she quickly whisks me straight to the back entrance, along with my parents and Rewa.

“Okay. We have five minutes before the bride walks down the flower path which will lead to the stage that’s set up for the bride and the groom.” The wedding planner instructs us and walks away, giving the other crew members instructions.

“Sweetheart, don’t be nervous, everything is going to be fine, you get me?” Mom says and I nod.

After exactly five minutes, the hall door opens. I take a deep breath and walk down the flower path, holding my father’s arm. Meanwhile, I look around and marvel at how the enormous hall has been lavishly decorated, with the gleaming chandeliers, water fountains, floral decorations, and expensive artefacts heightening the royal experience. I then catch sight of the stage where the wedding ceremony is going to take place and remember the initial conversation I had with Ranveer, about keeping up the pretence in front of the public. Even though after that, the equation between us has changed considerably, the words resonate in my mind and I put on a mask over my face. An elegant smile lights up my face as I look ahead of me.Wow! At least I am able to get a hold of myself.

As we approach the stage, my wandering gaze then finds his face and warmth shoots up my neck. Dad lets go of my arm, and I stand facing Ranveer. His solemn gaze roves over my face, looking intently, making me aware of the butterflies in my tummy. I want to look away, but his piercing gaze doesn’t allow me and holds me captive. He looks pretty stunning in a white brocade sherwani, with a royal pearl necklace in red adding to his aura. His granddad standing next to him gives me a warm smile.

“Bride and groom, please take your seats......” the priest begins to speak.
